mouse in furnace blower wheel

So its 3AM and we are suddenly awaken by the sound of the furnace motor blower SCREAMING and could smell something a little warm........well after i got the fuse pulled to the furnace and start checking I find a mouse laying in the blower wheel missing a few feet, so this critter is the problem! I had to reset the on off switch and got furnace to run again and all seems fine? Is the blower hard to pull apart to check the insides and electrical connections? I will pursue that when its daylight and not quite so cold out, and reset the traps!

not too hard. Take the outer panel off, remove 4 screws for the front blower case, unplug the wires and remove. When you replace it there is a plastic "lid" that has 3 or 4 tabs on it. The tabs are what keep the lid in place on the top of the front and rear of the blower cases. This can be a little tricky to line up when you are putting everything back together.

Sounds like you have some hamster cross-breeded mice that thought the blower wheel was their long-lost exercise wheel????? I must admit this is the first time I have read a post like this on the board.

Most folks use hamsters to run the motors in their furnace. I hope Ron (nunya) learned his lesson that using mice is a problem. I think their long tails get caught up in stuff. Hamsters are preferred because they don't have long tails. I am at least impressed that the mouse literally ran his feet off. I prefer to use the 12v batteries because even hamsters get hungry and will probably start eating wires.

I am just having fun with this. I hope it's just me but I see some hilarity with Ron's post - the visualization, while sad for the mouse screams of satire. I have never heard of that kind of story in any forum. What are the odds of this happening with so many other things that have and could go wrong with a Monty? But, he figured out the problem, and we are now the wiser to hope we won't have that problem.

Merry Christmas All, and keep your mice in a cage where they belong.

You are going to have to post little "No Mice Allowed" signs next to the blower. Otherwise, the mouse's next of kin may sue you for wrongful death...

I am laughing so hard now but I sure wasn`t at 3AM. I was sure you all would get a kick outta this one, I as well had never heard of such a thing, go figure. All is well and the signs are posted, the release forms are signed. I now have new 12v batteries and my lawyer is on retainer. and NO I did NOT dream this happened...........maybe Santa will be in there next!
