Victoria BC Favorites

Here are our favorites from our stay in Victoria:

Butchart Gardens--a must for the garden enthusiast or anyone who lives with a garden enthusiast or anyone who does not fit in either category. Incredibly beautiful and of course incredibly crammed with tourists. On a rainy day, they thoughtfully provide clear plastic umbrellas for visitors to borrow. DO NOT MISS THIS or you will certainly regret it.

Empress Hotel--fabulously elegant--even if having tea here is not YOUR cup of, stop in to see one of the world's most elegant places.

Royal British Columbia Museum--interesting, especially the First Peoples exhibits

Maritime Museum--especially interesting history of the maritime contributions to Canadian history. Super ship models as well as a full size boat that had once been an Indian war canoe made from a single huge cedar log

Miniature Museum--a must for the young and young at heart. Good fun

Milestones Restaurant--on the causeway by the tourist bureau. Though in the middle of the tourist press, locals recommended it and so do we. Great view, great food and reasonable prices.

Double decker bus tour--super

China town--small but fun and the little markets had some really interesting items.

Walk all the streets possible--this is a pedestrian friendly city and we enjoyed every step of it. The shops and restaurants are super and the countryside lovely. Guarantee you will wish you had more time in this beautiful city

We wish we had seen Craigdorrach Castle and had time for a whale sighting trip. We'll save the whales for Alaska

Victoria is a beautiful city. In fact, the whole island is full of adventure and attractions and is truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth. It's climate is moderate and pretty much has good weather year round. Annual rain is much less than that of Vancouver, B.C. or Seattle.

One of our favorite towns on the island besides Victoria is Sidney, about 20 minutes or so from Victoria. We actually wouldn't mind trying to retire there.
