DVDplayer recommendarions
We have a 2006 2955RL. The DVD/surround sound shot craps recently, and I have tried three different DVD players as a temporary measure, but can’t get any sound from the TV. The players I have tried have the RCA connectors like the TV, but no sound. What am I doing wrong? I’d like to hook upa DVD player as a temporary measure, and eventually get a whole new setup.
Any ideas?

Not sure what kind of TV you have, but there is probably a setting on the TV that is not set right.

I am certainly no expert. But I believe there are two types of RCA cables, composite and component. One is two wire and one is three wire. And the audio is handled differently between the two. Surely some TV/audiophile will pop in quickly and set you straight.
But I would go with an HDMI cable if both have HDMI connectors.
You might even try a simple coax between the two to see if you get picture and sound.

You mite want to get get one of your kids or grand to hook it for you! HA HA! Are new 5er uses HDMI stile cables witch made it real ease to do. But like Dick said there should be a setting on the TV for your DVD player.

Thanks for the rplies so far. It’s the original old Zenith boat anchor, and I can’t find any appropriate settings. I’ll look again, though.

If there are RCA input plugs, then there must be a Menu/Source selection to switch to them rather than the antenna.

Just to be clear. Are you getting a picture but no sound?

Yes, picture and no sound.
I may have stumbled onto the problem. The TV is original to the unit, and is an analog TV. THE DVD I’m trying to hook up is a Sony digital unit, and I just don’t think they’re communicating, even though I have a picture. Could that be it?

Do the speaker wires connect to the DVD player? I had a 06 2980 but forget if they had the combo DVD/Radio thing like now. And isn't there a setting on the DVD player as to which of 3 sets of speakers receive the signal? MAybe that is set wrong?
Good luck

Sounds like time for a TV upgrade. I replaced my old boat anchor with a larger 32” Samsung LED TV a number of years ago. They are so thin now I could mount the new larger one on the outside of the cabinet and still look good. And the costs is way down.
I think my 3075RL is at least somewhat similar to your 2955RL in how the TV is installed.

That’s probably the best plan. Just get a new TV and quit messing around.
Thanks for all the help, everyone.

I think your TV setup is at least somewhat similar to my 2007 3075RL. I upgraded from the old 27" (I think) TV to a 32" LED TV. If you, or in my case the DW, watches much TV you will like it. Here are some before and after pics.

On the road, sorry to be so long getting back to you. Could you let me know what you used to mount your new TV? Looks great BTW. Did you fabricate the shelf, or buy it?
Thanks

I got a little carried away on mine as you can see from the pictures below. I did make the shelf from some 1"x3" oak from Home Depot and rounded the edges with a router. But you could round the edges with a sander fairly easily.
Ensure you have enough room between the slide and the front of the cabinet for the TV to sit out front. Mine had plenty, but is a slightly different floor plan.
You could mount a simple piece of plywood in the cabinet opening and install a TV mount to it. You could use a fixed TV mount or use an articulating TV mount. I installed some velcro straps that I can pull out in front of the TV to secure it during travel since I used an articulating mount. I ordered the mount from wayfair.com if I remember correctly.

Beautiful work! Mine probably won’t look that nice, but the function will be the same. Again, thanks for taking the time.

Hey scattershot! How you doing with your upgrade? Here in Highlands Ranch with same coach as yours. I started another thread today as yours didn't show up I think because you used DVD player as your subject. Wife is lobbying awful hard for a TV upgrade, and I'm sure other necessary purchases to make everything work together.

Hi, Clyde. I wound up getting a cheapo 32” TV from Best Buy, $112.00. good picture, not much money. Gonna order a wall mount from Amazon and attach the TV to a vertical 2x4 mounted in the cabinet. Wish I had the woodworking skills of BB_TX, but I don’t. As I get older, my favorite tools are a checkbook and a pen, but I should be able to cobble something together that will work.
