Favor Turns Out Great

Couple months ago agreed to solo drive a moving truck 1400 miles for a friend. I wasn't looking forward to it because I know most big rental trucks tend to be junk. But I didn't have to load or unload, just drive plus she is flying me back to the CG we are staying in.

Boy was I wrong!

Went to Penske a couple days ago to pick up the "piece of crap" so I could park it at her home to be loaded the next day. They gave me a 2017 39' International diesel. Has just over 400 miles on it because it came from Indiana. Never been rented. Has some great options and does it ever drive nice!

Can't wait for 5am to roll around! I'm going to get my "diesel" fix for at least 26 hours.

So if you see a southbound big yellow Penske truck being driven by an old guy with a smile on his face that would be me. Go ahead and throw a wave, I still look at all fivers on the road to see if they are Montanas.

I drove a Penske last July from Atlanta to Las Vegas for a friend of a friend. This was for a business and was well-paid. They flew me home and then 5 days later flew me back to Vegas to get the same truck and drive it back to Atlanta. Fun trip for an old guy and enjoyed the $ too. Yes, Penske has top quality equipment.

Except for Penske having the engine limited on rpms, it would still do 70mph and steer straight with 2 fingers. If anyone has experience with 38' to 40' MH's, especially gas, then you know most don't handle all that well. But I was impressed with this equipment.

Scott, we had that discussion before I left. There was a chance I could have been stopped if for nothing else bypassing scales. With a 39' Penske it is hard to tell if it is a short term rental for private use or leased to a business for commercial purposes. So the Trooper looks at my Florida license, a rental agreement for someone from Illinois not related to me, and of course I tell him I wasn't present for the loading of the truck! Been there, heard that, if I am that Trooper my next radio call would be "HQ, I need another squad out here and a K-9 unit".

International brand didn't seem too bad to me! I drove big trucks in the Army so maybe I am easily impressed. LOL

I put 840,000 miles on one Pete I drove and used to tell my friends that I could drink coffee from a full "go cup" without a lid on it. It was smooth but not that smooth.
