fireplace xpiration date

The wife has been saying lately that she can hear a "not so normal" noise. I couldn't, but sure didn't doubt her. And this morning, lo and behold, no blower action to be had by this two year old plus fireplace. Awwww...poo! I didn't want to spend my day taking the top of it off to see why it's doing this. Okay, I feel better now and will get another cup of coffee out of the keurig and launch into being the best repairman on the planet or at least in southwest florida. I just want someone to tell me why this had to happen on the morning when it got down to 40 or so. I would say something about having a working furnace...but don't want to jinx mysself. John

Okay, took it out, took the top off, didn't see anything wrong but some wiring that was tie-wrapped so that the fan wires were being strained sideways...which I fixed and re-seated. Put it back together and it works. Let it run awhile with no issues, but an overnight run tonight will be more of a test. One thing I did notice when I pulled it out of the entertainment center is that the flipdown door to access controls really could open all the way down. There are two plastic runners on the bottom of the fireplace, but the floor under these wasn't high enough to properly space the unit up in the cabinet to allow the door to work. Cardboard shims under each runner (3 layers) did the job. Not elegant, but it works. Long term fix will be 1/8 inch thick shims epoxied in place. AND the decal on the inside of the door giving directions on how to remove the logs...wrong! Manual was correct. John

John,
Not sure I would let my fireplace run over night without observation. Bad things have happened with them due to faulty electrical components.

I have one of the fireplaces that I have no use for. If you don't get yours fixed let me know. Pay the shipping and that baby is yours.
I would rater have the storage space than the fireplace.

Thanks Jim. It is just something I have no use for.

We love our fireplace and use it regularly. Well, we did before we came to FL.

That's exactly why we don't have one. We carry two Lasko towers, put out the same heat and are portable.

Well, the unit is still working this morning. When I had it apart, I did a careful look at how it was put together, wire runs and sizes, how they compartmentalized different parts of its functionality and electronics or electrical parts. I was impressed with how they had everything enclosed in metal sub compartments and used good design practices. Heck...other parts of this montana are a lot more likely to give me a viking funeral than the dimplex fireplace. John

If you are serious with that offer, I'll take it!! The only option our 2013 didn't have that I (and the DW) miss is the fireplace.

Tom if I wasn't serious I wouldn't have made the offer. I got to get 2 doors made or swap you the fireplace foe the doors then it's all yours.

I won't have any use for the doors with the fireplace! Going to PM's.
