14. Texas is the only state to enter the U.S. by TREATY, (known as

21. The State animal is the Armadillo. (An interesting bit of trivia about the

four, and they either have four males or four females. Well, I thought it was
interesting anyway!)

22. The first domed stadium in the U.S. was the Astrodome in Houston.

23. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS - TEXAS STYLE People here in Texas have trouble with
all those "shalls" and "shall nots" in the ten Commandments. Folks here just
aren't used to talking in those terms. So, some folks out in west Texas got
together and translated the "King James" into "King Ranch" language:

Ten Commandments, Cowboy Style.

Cowboy's Ten Commandments posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie,
Texas.

(1) Just one God.
(2) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
(3) No telling tales or gossipin'.
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meeting.
(5) Put nothin' before God.
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
(7) No killin'.
(8) Watch yer mouth.
(9) Don't take what ain't yers.
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Hope you enjoyed,

Colleen

A good way to learn a few of these tidbits is on a 2 wheeled self balancing scooter. Colleen, her hubby, Sue and I did so on a tour of Austin on them, Colleen is a super hostess.

Ozz,

You are such a gentlemen. I did note that they didn't included the four flags that are on the Capitol building.

They should also have included the best Chicken Fried Steak is at Hills Cafe and the best BBQ is at the Salt Lick.

Hope you are staying warm, we head off on our cruise January 20th until Feb 3. I fell New Year Eve weekend playing Pickle Ball at the Guadalupe River RV Resort. I am off to the doctor this morning hopefully for some relief for my back. I don't want to spend 14 days on a ship in bed looking at the ceiling

Great little thing you posted on Texas trivia. Only thing is one of the capitols listed is incorrect. I'm don't want to distract from your post but as a fellow Texan thought you would like to know the facts.

I live four miles from West Columbia and the city touts it as the first capitol of Texas. There is a replica of the original capital building near city hall and the library.

Recently Walgreen's bought a portion of land in down town West Columbia to build a new store. During excavation they found an old cistern under the parking lot that had been there since the 1930's. It was belief that this cistern was the actual location of the capitol. There was a stone monument on this corner depicting it as the location. Several weeks of work by archaeologists found quite a few artifacts but nothing substantial to prove or disprove it was the original site. This is still under review.

West Columbia did not exist in name at that time. It was known only as Columbia and in those days most of the activity was on the Brazos River about two miles east of present day West Columbia. After several floods most of the population relocated to higher ground to what was to become West Columbia. Hence the name was born to differentiate between the two locations.

What remains on the river today is known as East Columbia. There are still several old Antebellum homes along the river bank, one is even said to be haunted.

Here is an excerpt that I copied from the University Of Texas Handbook on line about the capitol in Columbia.

"After his capture at the battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836, Santa Anna and members of his army were taken to Velasco, then the location of the provisional government. Here Santa Anna signed the Treaties of Velasco with the Republic of Texas on May 14, 1836. Columbia, the seat of the ad interim government served as the capitol of the republic when sessions of the first Texas Congress met in October 1836."

This link is from the Brazosport Facts on Dec. 22.
Charlie,You wouldn't have offended me if you had posted this on the thread. I do hesitate pulling things off of the internet and posting them because of possible errors. I briefly read through the list and thought things were correct. Thanks for bringing the error to my attention and also the extra history lesson.

Isn't it great when you find out the little extra information about places

Little known information about Driftwood Texas. The Baptist and Methodist churchs shared the same sanctuary for over 100 years when the Baptist church burned down and there wasn't enough milled wood to rebuild the Baptist Church. They have just recently split apart in the past several years. They would alternate Sundays. One Sunday they would have a Baptist minister and then the next one would be the Methodist minister.
