Red River, NM
We first went to Red River about 20 years ago with some very good friends to fish, do some sight seeing, and spend a week doing whatever tripped our trigger. We instantly fell in love with the place, and have been going back every chance we get.
It is a very small town nestled in a beautiful mountain valley, between Eagles Nest, and Questa NM. There is something going on there almost all year long, and the people are extremely friendly. There are several places to eat and/or drink that range from ritzy, to redneck, with food from elk steaks to hot dogs, and they are all good.

Summer activities include, hiking, biking, fishing, trail riding, 4-wheeling, and guided touring. In addition to the river which runs through town, there are several other creeks, and streams, along with several small mountain lakes, some accessible only by extreme 4x4 trails.

Winter activities include, skiing, fishing (ice), hunting, and trail riding (snowmobile).
There are also other places to visit in the area such as Angel Fire (awesome ski trails), and Taos (plenty of shopping).
I could go on and on, but I think this is long enough .

That sure does look nice Lonnie...thanks for sharing those pics with us.
This is one area of the country I'd like to visit, and now that I know someone down there I could maybe get some pointers...

You are so right, it is a really great place in our country, and the folks are in fact friendly. Last I was there I found that most of the merchants were from some where else, and just loved being there. Good place to lose stress. Been through there mostly on my motorcycle, great riding in the area, doing the loop. Which camp ground did you stay in?

Looks like you had a gas Lonnie, thanks for the pictures! Did you boondock or is there a campground?

Lonnie,
Looks like that place has the "it" factor. We'll put that on our list of "must sees". Thanks for the pictures.

There are at least 2 nice campgrounds in town, and 1 or 2 between there and Questa with full hookups. We have never stayed at any of them, but they look good from the road. This is our preffered method of camping, and should answer your question Brad .
SlickWillie, the trout fishing IS most excellent. Nothing like a fresh batch out of the creek, and into the fire.
Mudchief, anytime your ready for the ATV trails, let me know and I'll find a way to get there.

Lonnie,
I have very fond memories of Red River. We had a family reunion there years ago. We stayed at a hotel there that had a pond on the property that was stoked with trout. It was winter time so we weren't interested in fishing We skied there and had a great time. We ended up in a ski resort theat was on the other side of the mountain range. I must say the ski resort was set up better than any that we have skied in New Mexico, Colorado or Utah. I can't remember the name, but know that they went in to foreclosure so not sure the mountain is open. The motel that we stayed in wasn't the best....wish I had my Montana then But heah we had a great time in that little part of God's heaven. Hopefully Red River will stay as quaint and untainted from the McDonals etc.
Thanks for posting your great pictures.
Colleen
