No, but dry nitrogen is an inert gas, it should work fine.

Copinmi,

There was a thread on here a couple months ago that I started if you want to search you'll find more information there. Didn't seem like most people bought into the cost/benefit of changing.

I know nitrogen will stop very slow pressure leaks in tires due to the fact that the molecules are larger than oxygen molecules. However it will also stop leaks from hairline cracks in wheels, which , if undetected can lead to catastropic wheel failure. This is not something I care to chance.

It ain't worth the time or the money. Yeah we all know Costco gives it free when you buy a new set of tires but what happens when you do get that flat and Costco ain't no where to be found.

Lonnie it would have to be a very very very tiny leak. Them molecules ain't that big.

Nitrogen is the same gas they use to charge fire extinguishers so if you really needed some go to a fire equipment dealer that services extinguishers.

This nitrogen thingy has been going around for more years than the Internet. When I was in the business many years ago we dealt with the same crap but it finally died off. Than along comes the WWW and about once a year we're right back into it. One thing is for sure it will not harm your tires but I doubt it will help them either and if it did not nearly enuff to make it worth your while.

I agree with Glenn on this issue. Most issues actually. Costco did say you can top up with air if you start losing pressure.
We put new tires on my son's 94 Corolla a while back . They put in nitrogen and the green valve stems that identify it. I checked the air pressure yesterday and they were all down so I fired up my compressor and topped them up. If Costco can't put air in my next tires , I'll go elsewhere.

I put helium in mine, that way all the weight police on the forum leaves me alone. Lighten the load so to speak.

That's the best out loud laugh I've had in a long time. I can just visualize that rig floating along the highway. Ohhhh, my.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!
