Firewood

If anyone has some firewood they could bring, let us know. We can buy it there but if some of us brings some, we should have plenty. I can bring enough for a night or two.

This is our first time as we are newbies. This will actually be our first trip in our Montana, even though we have been living in it since October. Just wondering - Are we gonna need firewood in TN in August?!

Some folks think that it is part of the camping experience. We try to have something for everyone. It's not so much the fire but the social event.

We just sit farther away. It's a way for us to get together in the evenings. Vickie says "How else are you going to roast the marsh mellows?"

Jim you need to check with camp ground before bringing in firewood. A lot of states and camp grounds will not let you transport firewood. A couple of years ago on way to Ford Museum in Michigan the first camp ground we stopped at took my fire wood and could not enter camp ground with it. That's how the pine beetle and several other tree insects get spread.
I know the last time We were at River Plantation there were several fires so maybe they don't care.

I don't believe that Tennessee is one of those states. There is nothing on their website.

I think it depends on the campground. 2 years ago I was in Lake George, NY. They said no out-of-state firewood. A month later, I was camping in my home state, Ma., and they wouldn't let me bring my wood in unless it was bought in that particular town. Then again, other campgrounds pay no mind at all. I've been to NH this year with my own wood and nobody said anything. I guess it hasn't reached epidemic proportions because there is no hard and fast rule being enforced. Maybe the Feds need to get involved.......

Yeah, get the Feds involved, that will solve everything. The idiots will ban all campfires.

The Fed's are involved regarding firewood on federal parks and Federal land as well as State and Local Government. We stopped carrying firewood around as there are many Counties here in Ohio that do not allow firewood from outside their County. Michigan has had a firewood ban for many years. They are just trying to prevent a tree disease from spreading.

The state of Tennessee urges people to not transport firewood, even within the state. Areas of the state are already quarantined because of the Emerald Ash Borer. We lost over 100 mature Ash trees in Michigan in just 2 years because of this borer.

Another link that is a little bit clearer:

Don't Move Firewood

I would suggest contacting the campground and see if they can make bonfire or campfire wood available.

It looks as though we'll be buying firewood from the campground.

I talked with the CG mgr again and was advised that he would supply the firewood at no charge.
