So Long Sam!
Yesterday we had to send our Golden Retriever, Sam to God. His seizures were increasing and he was on so much medicine his quality of life was questionable. He was the best friend we ever had. We will miss him tremendously. The only good side of this is that he will spend the rest of his time with God.

Very sorry to hear of your loss
As for others, we offer:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Also sorry about your loss. We will soon have to make that call on our old German Shorthair, Brandy.

Phil & Cathy,
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. All though we have been very close to all of dogs we have ever had and suffered greatly when they passed. There is something about the bound with our Golden that is just some how more intense.
If you decide at a some point to get another Golden I would like to suggest that you contact a Golden Retriever rescue group. They exist all over the country. Our golden was rescued when his original owner was shocked that her puppy got so big. We were only going to be his foster home until some adopted him. After three months we could not let him go. Maybe he knows he got a second shot at life because he is so affectionate.

Phil and Cathy,
So sorry that you had to let your four legged family member leave. It is never easy to make that decision but just remember it was a gift that you could give him to end his pain. Carol's poem says it all.

Phil and Cathy,
So, so sorry for the loss of your sweet golden. They are the best pals, aren't they? Our GUs is almost 13 and we see the signs of old age slowing creeping up. Remember all the happy times you had with him....

We are sorry to hear of your loss. We know what you are going through. We just lost a couple of our little furry friends in the last couple of years. Our best wishes are with you.

So sorry to hear about Sam's departure. We know the feeling. In the past year we have had to put down two of our faithful ones, First Dharma and then Dude. Both were young dogs. It truely does hurt.
