Oh noooo, another screw loose!
We got home last night and went out today to clean a little. I didn't notice the fan blade sagging until I heard the snap when the slide caught it on the way in. Needless to say the blade is history and I couldn't find the missing screw.
Now, I have to call the dealer and see if I can get a replacement blade and if I have to pay for it?

Steve:
My fan blade screws kept coming out too. I took all my screws out and put pipe tape around them and re-installed them. I wanted to use lock tight paste but couldn't find where I left it last.

Warranty should cover you. Silicone is another trick for keeping screws tight - that you might want to remove at a future date. Like the old Brylcreem commercial said, 'a little dab will do ya' (yeah, I'm THAT old!).

Ours came loose and broke the mounting bracket for the fan before I even knew there was any problem. CW replaced the whole fan under warranty and we now have a three speed instead of a two speed.

Steve -
They replaced ours under warranty, but we no longer have the light kit. Evidently they have stopped using the lights. Only two weeks to rally.

Something else to check!! Thanks for the heads up. When we left the Elkins area this weekend, one of our chores is securing the cabinet doors with mini-bungees. My youngest daughter has that duty and while doing it she tells me that a cabinet door won't close. Of course, I knew the dreaded "loose screw" syndrome had set in. It was even worse, the uppermost screw in the top hinge had never been put in. It wasn't missing because there was no hole there that it backed out of. So, I put a temporary silver one in place (wonder how long temporary is??), and went through evey cabinet door tightening all of the screws. After almost three years, they were in remarkably good shape which did surprise me. I never thought about the ceiling fan blades, and will check them this week. Thanks Emmel.

Steve, if you can't get it covered under warranty, you can get replacement blades and brackets from either Home Depot or Lowe's. One had the exact size and the other didn't. Sorry I can't remember which was which. I think Home Depot had them. I took a bracket with me and matched up the holes. The bracket is not identical in shape but is close and the holes match perfectly. The brackets are white. I took a suggestion from another MOC member and bought paint that's very close to the color of the original brackets and painted the new brackets. Also, was able to re-use our old blades with the new brackets but Home Depot will have blades to fit the bracket and the right length (measure before you go to the store). Good luck.

Called our dealer, Walnut Ridge in Indiana, and the blade is covered under warranty. I have to send it to them for replacement, easier than taking the Montana back and forth!

I found two screws that were fairly big around on the floor one day--couldn't figure out where they came from for several weeks, then one day the fan wouldn't run--really crooked. There are three screws that hold the fan motor to the bracket in the ceiling and the tow had come out of one side--interestingly the other side had just one screw holding it in place--obviously only one was supposed to be on that side. not a fun job to do to fix it as the blades had to be taken off before the housing could be taken off to find the problem. so if you find short fat screws on the floor you know where they come from

To be on the safe side, you might also check the screws that hold the light globe in place too!

I changed out the globe right away, got one at Lowe's that matched the milky glass of the other lights.
I continually tighten the screws on the lights, but I never had to tighten the ones on the fan on our other two Montanas and the last one was almost 6 years old.

We had the same problem with two of the three mounting screws showing up on the floor. This was after our blade snapped when the slide out closed. We purchased fan blades from Menard's and had to install all four blades instead of replacing just one. We have the hickory edition so we had to stain the blades to match. Not an easy job but at least it works.

Picked up the 3400 brand new drove 5 miles down the road to RV park and found two screws from fan blades on the floor! 5 miles! Took them all out and used some locktite on them! Glad I did now after reading all this!

Like many here, I put Locktite on ALL of the screws associated with the fan. I also put Locktite on the screws for the T-handles to the dump valves after I lost one on the way to Quartzsite earlier this year.

Just checked all visible screws. 4 of the 8 were loose on the fan blade brackets, 2 on the globe.
Thanks for the tip.

Like Jack, we removed and applied Locktite to all the screws and then replaced. Have had no problem since the upgrade.

Nail Polish! Who would have thunk that. I have always said RVers are the most creative bunch of people you could run into.
And MOC members are on the top.

Steve, Home Depot and Lowe's have replacement blades in that size. I didn't buy blades there when I bought the brackets but did see the blades. That was just a few months ago. If you need brackets, the replacements are white but they take a spray paint very nicely.
