Winterizing by blowing air and vodka?!
A friend with an Airstream recommended that instead of winterizing with the usual pink stuff anti-freeze, that I blow out the plumbing with compressed air (set to 50-60 psi on the air compressor, same as water pressure) and then dumping a large bottle of cheap vodka into the sink and shower drains just enough to get vodka into the p-traps and plumbing low points.
Why? He said because vodka won't freeze and tastes better than the pink stuff when you de-winterize.
I like this idea, can't think of anything wrong with it.
Ever hear of this? What do you think?

Yes you can blow out the lines. Make sure hot water is drained and on by pass. What a waste of vodka but I suppose it would work.

No problem, except that most RVs don't have "P" or "S" Traps they use the Hepvo 1-1 2 Waterless Trap. So most of your Vodka would end up in the Holding Tanks.
I do use the Air method when winterizing the House, but still use the pink stuff in the toilets and drains. We treat the RV better, taking it to warmer climate.

taste point I understand, just wonder about the vodka on the pipes if it's anything like the stuff in gas and gas lines?

Scott,
Blowing the lines out alone should do the trick.
Better option is to drink the vodka and keep your rig moving to warmer weather.

When you blow the water out, many times people forget the washer if you have one. The pump reservoir is still holding water, you know how I know.
As to the vodka having a better taste. I try to keep the water in the P traps out of my water system. I don't think there's any real way to make P trap water taste good.

I blow my lines out to but I don’t like vodka so I guess I’ll just keep on drinking the pink stuff. It isn’t very good but what do you do if you don’t like vodka, reckon beer would work? Probably not

Traditional rv antifreeze works well, pass on the vodka.

Some also forget the 35' of tank fill line and the water pump if going without the pink.

not ever had to deal with such cold to worry about frozen pipes. and no my rig is not cold weather insulated.
it does freeze here but only for hrs. worse couple weeks at a time.(high to mid 20'sF)
but in using compressed air. i would be worried about "bad air". air tanks can get muck ( oil, water, rust) in them that will get out via a air hose. so a good air filter is a must here.
maybe this year i will try cleaning out my water system. if for nothing else than practice.

I use the air method and then the ink stuff, its overkill. In the spring, I sanitize the whole system with a bleach solution,. after that is done, I flush it with fresh clean water. I never have a taste of the pink stuff leftover...

Keep valve set to winterize with hose in bottle of antifreeze, after everything is done. Keep fridge on and let ice maker cycle until it dumps pink slush. You are good to go. It will take about three cycles. When you are ready to de-winterize-same thing. Let it cycle, dumping pink ice until it’s clear. We did ours last winter with no issues.

Good One Dick.
Why waste good air. Why not just put the winterize hose in the vodka bottle and run the water pump until you taste vodka at all of the faucets. Then next spring you don't have to de-winterize. All you'll have to do is buy some tomatoe juice.
