Discovery

One of the interesting things about owning a new Montana is discovering what they changed that you didn't know about. In our 2008 Big Sky the drain for the washer is piped into the main discharge line, not into any of the holding tanks. The only time the washer may be operated is when the unit is hooked up to a waste discharge system.

On the 2003 Big Sky the washer drain was piped into the gray water tank. We discovered on that one that you better have the gray valve open or you might get a geyser in the shower and lavatory.

The only time we wash is when hooked to a sewer discharge system, so I guess I like this piping scheme better.

Our 07 3400 goes to the discharge line also. It's much easier that way, although different dealers probably install them differently.

Um...Montana's are pre-plumbed to the closet so dealer doesn't do much other than make washer connection to this already existing piping.
Mine has pre-plumbing but never had a washer install so piping just sits below floor in basement unused...and as its a 2005 goes to the gray tank and I can just imagine Stiles comment on geyser!

On the 2005 (3400RL) it went to the black tank!!! I moved it to the discharge line, life is so much better now.

07, 2007 3600re goes to gray, then shower, then down step to the door step. Not once but twice. She picks up fast as it has never happened again.

Smart lady. It usually takes me 5 or 6 times to remember things.

Our 06 3295 is plumbed to the discharge line. I can see it underneath the belly of the 5ver

Stiles, ours is plumbed like yours.

But, there is a way you could do a load or two without being connected to sewer, so long as you don't exceed the capacity of your tank. Make sure the dump cap seals tightly, then open the gray tank valve. The water should back up into the gray tank. If you open both gray valves, it should use the capacity of both.

I'm not sure I'd trust that cap, though. I'd get one of those less than $20 slide valves that twist on. CW has them. I have one now and use it for a couple of purposes. With this valve securing the dump outlet in addition to the cap you should be able to run the washer safely with both gray tank valves open. You would have a capacity of 76 gallons plus whatever the dump pipes hold, less whatever was in those tanks to start with.

Steve,

I cut the old end off the discharge and cemented a permanent valve on the end. By cutting off the old end piece, you get the new valve behind the direct line of the wheel tread in case of blowout.
