Declaration of Domicile

Didn't want to be off subject with the LLC postings so if this is correct I guess I'll read about it further here.

Florida, there may be other states I am not aware of, allows a Declaration of Domicile along with a mailing address to get residency status. Used to be a determination of residency intent was all that was needed. Florida does NOT have a state income tax though finds other ways to fund their coffers, I'll leave the research to those with an interest. Voter registration helps but the major criteria, as far as I can tell, is destruction of your former states' DL and issuance of a FL DL.

Our former state income tax will fund our Florida home purchase in six years of Fl residency, pretty attractive incentive to live in the Sunshine State

Best...John & Val

John I agree Fl looks nice however I am hearing horror stories on costs of home insurance. Best of luck.

True John but it seems to be regional. Up here, way north and central, home owner policies are comparable with previous rates "up" north.

Of course this method would not be for everybody but we "farmer-ranchers" have found a real nice haven from the weather and tax men of the upper 48, of course one mans' paradise will be another mans' hades. Just thought that some would find this topic of some interest and warrant further investigation. BTW we are located in Madison, Fl thirty miles south of Valdosta, Ga 60 miles east of Tallahassee, Fl, very country and almost all agriculture of one form or another.

Best to you.....John

John from Madison is correct. Living here most of my life (now 65 and arrived here in 1956) living costs, and life in general has been good. There has however been major impacts on that quality of life. Who knows John, someday you may have a mailing address of Valdosta while living in Madison!!! just kiddin.

As SemperFi John indicates Florida home insurance is a huge impact. The insurance industry in Florida has always been suspect. Now when you insure a home here you have a "hurricane" deductible which is truly nonbeneficial to a homeowner hit by a storm. You face $5-10K out of pocket average before you even get to the policy coverage. I remain here generally satisfied, escape to NC mountains in summer and now just very satisfied Judy and I can 5th wheel it too! Go Gators!
