tpms sensor for spare?

I have the Pressure Pro system that I am about to upgrade due to its age. In the past I have had a sensor on all five tires (including the spare). Is this overkill?

Overkill perhaps but at the same time it saves crawling under there to check pressure.

Have to go along with DarMar because I really hate to crawl under the unit to check that spare pressure. I'm even putting on an extension to the fresh water tank drain so I don't have to get under there to drain it when I'm done with an adventure. Getting a little older and can't get down on the replaced knee as easy as I used to.

I don't have a sensor on my spare but have considered it. When I remembered that I had forgotten to check my spare in quite some time, and finally did check it, I found the pressure at under 60 psi.

I have never done that. But with solar and two generators with me always, putting air in the spare anywhere is no big deal.

I did not think we would be able to pick up the signal from the spare under the rear of the RV???

I have before. Just wondering if it is worth the trouble to crawl under the trailer and put the sensor on each time I use the trailer.

I haven't put a TPMS system on ours yet, but am putting Sailuns on shortly & I was considering doing the same thing if for no other reason than for the piece of mind they will give me.

Sounds like you were a Boy Scout like me. Always be prepared and a fully pressurized spare waiting to be used at the ready is very good planning. Keep thinking that way and you will avoid a lot of future mishaps in the making.

I agree, I have a compressor with me, so If I need to air up the spare, I am ready for it. I just check the spare before each big adventure.

I'll admit that I think putting a sensor on the spare can seem like overkill, since the primary purpose of a TPMS is to monitor ACTIVE tires in use to prevent mishaps associated with an actual or potential tire problem. However, when you want to measure the inactive spare to remind you to keep it inflated to proper pressure in the event of the aforementioned happenstance, then WHY NOT?! You've paid enough for the system, why not get more benefit than absolutely necessary. Beats crawling under there and finding the PSI to be JUST FINE, like what happens to me a lot since I don't have a TPMS to tell me when to crawl under there only when it's necessary.

Sometimes, overkill is a good thing.

It all depends on how valuable the $50 or so for the extra sensor is. For me, I could think of many, many more important things to put the $50 towards.
I crawl under and check the pressure of my spare twice each season and it takes up about 5 minutes of my time. I don't need to look at it on my in-cab display.

I had one on my spare until I replace my Marathon's with G614's. Now I check pressure a couple, three times a year. Have a lot of faith in my G614's. One more thing I was concerned about high pressures(run 110#)as high as 20-25%, talked to Goodyear. they that it is within normal especially in summer.

Just put 5 Sailuns on mine TST T507 w/6 sensors both pickup & 5th spares are now covered.

No we do not have one on the spare. We check the spare a couple of times a year and it has never lost much air. It is not on the ground so it can not impact drivability even if it does lose some air.

Sounds like a smart plan to me - beats the hell out of needing a spare and finding it half flat!
