Your right. My son thinks nothing will out pull his 2014 cummings its all in the eyes of the owner. All those numers you thru out there They mean nothing to me. I have no Idea what my numbers would even be. And I don't care. I work for a company that has every diesel made. I've drove them all. New and old like my 2000 7.3 All I'm saying is to me I'll drive my 7.3 till the wheels fall off. The only major repair yet was the tranny, new tranny at 104,000 miles. My company employ's over 20 diesel mechanics the majority say the 7.3 was the best.

Had 3 psd, then an 04 Cummins, now a 2015 ram 3500 4x4 Laramie, loaded... 385 hp, 865 torque, AISIN trans.... the best so far...

That's interesting about Dave Smith's pricing ability on the Chevy's & GMC's. This morning, before I read this, I sent them an email for a quote on a new Chevy. Haven't been called yet. I've also got a 98 Dodge HD Cummins that just turned 100k and I'm concerned that it would have trouble pulling a 3400 or a 3585 even if I tricked it out. Mike in Montana
I would keep your 98 dodge. If you did regular maintenance on it, I wouldn't be afraid to pull anything anywhere with it. Before I became disabled I was a mechanic. Have a mechanic turn up your turbo and pull away. THAT'S MY 2 CENTS

I'm a firm believer that all the HD 350/3500 are great trucks I'm a Chevy and Ram guy.
I went with Ram because the seats seem to fit me better. Now that I pull with it OMG it seems the truck is asking me (hey when we going to work) its a dream. going out west I never had any issues pulling any grades and the engine brake was phenomenal. I'm sure every other HD driver has the same experience, but they have all come along way from 10 years ago. Diesel all the way.

We have looked into, in minute detail here as I’m an Obsessive Researcher, many options for tow vehicles.
We have access to the usual suite of Ram, Ford and GM trucks. These are very nice with good equipment levels across the ranges, and great diesel/transmission inclusions if you can look past the DPF/DEF systems fitted for emissions compliance.
Here, a truck to tow our 370br HC would be classified as a Heavy Vehicle and would be subject to Yearly Roadworthy inspections, so deleting those emissions systems are not an option.
Price wise for those trucks, well....before we decided on our HC, we looked at importing a 3950BR. The truck we decided on to tow that was a current model 2018 Silverado 3500 dually, crew cab, long box LTZ with the Duramax. With the right hand drive conversion and Australian compliance, we were presented with a quote for AUD$165,000K, on road drive away!
Ain’t happenin’,,,,,Period!
Disappointed? You betcha!
Peeved? Blame the Government for Everything
So, next option, a Japanese flat bed truck,,,,don’t laugh this gets good....Isuzu, original designers of the Duramax, produce a ton of different types.
One, is a crew cab, 7.8 litre straight six diesel with an Allison Trans backing it up, plus it has air over hydraulic braking, meaning the air system is already there for the air brakes on the RV!
As we are semi-retiring, meaning we intend working to assist with paying our way as we travel, I wanted to carry the tools of my trade with me, and they weigh a bit, and we would like to do gold prospecting and gem fossicking too, so we’ll need room (and cargo capacity) for all of that ‘stuff’ too.
So we ended up downsizing the RV by a 1000kg from the 3950br to the HC 370br, so ditching the hydraulics in favour of cable slides and the electric jacks saved Literally a ton of weight, plus we kept the (BR) for Vicki’s office and space for the Grandkids when they visit Grandma and Poppy. It was the floor plan we wanted.
I’ll post a pic in our album of a smaller rig than ours will be, and yes that’s a boat on the roof of the truck (we call a little runabout like that a Tinny) and a pic of the truck we intend buying to modify as our hauler, they’re also available in 4x4 configuration but rear airbag suspension is not optioned.

Mitsubishi (Fuso), Nissan (UD) and Toyota also have similar options. But I favour the Isuzu.

What’s the Isuzu going to cost if you don’t mind and also what’s the dollar conversion.
I have a brother in law in New Zealand and seems like an expensive place to live.
We just started our travels and loving it, safe travels!

Hi there, currently the AU$ is buying .74c US, The NZ$ is slightly lower at around .68 I think.

The sum I quoted for the Chevy truck, was Exclusive of fifth wheel prep, trailering camera system (which is Bloody Brilliant), trailer air brake system and bucket seats.
That last item Really peeved me, I think the last car I had with a bench seat as standard was made in 1966.

Anyway, the Jap truck fully kitted out to tow the HC should be around 50% of the Chevy cost.
I’m trying to find a good used late model with low KM’s that fits the bill, time will tell.
Vicki and I both still work full time for the moment, so time is on our side

Part 2.

I’m doing this in parts as I keep getting logged out and I’m losing my One finger typed, epic replies to the ether!

So the truck has a Stonking Big turbo diesel, a shifterless Allison trans and a locking differential, bullet proof driveline, tick.
Lots of options for wheelbase, tick.
Already has airbrakes, no need to modify anything, tick.
24v electrics, have to fit a 24/12v step down transformer plus an inverter, minor inconvenience.
Touchscreen stereo unit, commercial gps, a proper GPS too, not that ridiculous thing that relies on phone network coverage. We have a small population separated by vast distances with no network coverage, gotta be proper GPS. The one fitted to the truck is a true commercial vehicle type which you can program with you’re rig height, width and length and it will warn of low bridges for example,,,,,tick.
Drivers ISRI air suspension seat is standard, but I’ll upgrade them to leather, powered air seats.
I’ll fit a long range fuel tank and a potable water tank.
A bull bar for the kangaroos, camels and cattle to Hopefully bounce off of if they can’t be avoided in time..
A lockable second cab behind the main cab for tools and Stuff.
Storage for a black tank tote tank.

The to do list is long, but will make for a comfy truck, the rear of the crew cab seats 4 on fold down seating, (I’m told I’m buying a crew cab for when the grandkids come camping in their holidays) so there’s storage options there as well as room for the dog.

It should be fun

The F350 I looked at was even more expensive than the Chevy, that nudged $172,000 from memory and had less options.

I’ve no particular like or dislike of any car/truck, I weigh them up on their options, abilities and price.
Then I pick what suits.

But a Ford?

Hi Badmoon,
I absolutely will, I’ll also post some more pics of our HC soon, she’s in the shop at the moment having front/bedroom A/C fitted and a couple other things fitted.
