Homer, Alaska
Any suggestions/recommendations for 40 ft Montana at a Homer Spit campground in August. Busy time? Reservations needed?
Recommended charter fishing captain to guide for salmon and Halibut?

In 2013 we stayed at the Heritage RV Park right on the spit, about 1 mile from the Salty Dog Saloon. All sites are pull in toward the bay, if you want to back in have extra fresh waters hoses and length of waste hose because the hookups will be on the wrong side. Its not a cheap park, but after all that driving and the scenic beauty, it was so worth it. PM me if you want more specific information.

Good to know about the hoses. I went online and checked them out. I thought, too, it was a little pricey, but thought it must be the going rate. Thanks for the reply.

If you think the CGs are expensive, when we stayed there in 2014 friends went into town and paid just slightly less than 10 bucks for a gal of milk.

We were there in 2019, but we stayed at Ocean View RV Park. Only took 10-15 minutes to be at end of Homer spit. Check out my wife's blog for (second and third pictures are Ocean View RV Park). Ocean View RV Park was cheaper and much nicer.

We use the two for one book for our Halibut fishing trip. Everyone on the boat got there limit of fish (see blog). We did not make reservations other than the night before, other than Denali Teklanika campground (which is 30 miles inside the park).

We loved camping in Homer when we lived in Alaska. If you don’t need hookups, as soon as you drive onto the spit, there is a municipal campground immediately on the right. First come first serve, but almost always open spots, especially during the weekdays. Just pay at the pay post and enjoy the stay. Close to town and the spit. If you get a chance, visit Two Sisters Bakery and Homer Brewing Company. Both good in their own ways. Enjoy!

We were in Homer in 2017 and will return this year for another trip from Indiana. We toyed with the idea of staying on the spit. We will be there for seven days and didn’t want to deal with the lack of full hookups. Thus, we are at Baycrest KOA which is an easy drive down to the spit.
Enjoy your time there, one of many great places to experience in Alaska.

Homer Spit Campground
We stayed at HSC in June 2016 and enjoyed our stay there; Home Spit area. The CG was OK and not expensive. They only had the one large site available for us and we took it, although it was at the very end. Our 2007 3400RL is about 40' long.
The first pic is our truck and RV in the end site overlooking the bay - gorgeous. The second pic is of the campground from out site.
Off the topic, sort of, and sorry, but the automobile museum in Fairbanks was fantastic!
Enjoy your trip and be prepared for rough roads.

When people talk about the Homer Spit, it can have different connotations. The Spit is a long, narrow piece of land sticking into the bay. We stayed at the public campground called “The Spit”. It is a public parking spot with no hookups that was right on the bay. It was $20 per day. We had a great spot. We found the only place we made “advanced” reservations were Denali NP and Fairbanks. We had two Honda 2000’s for boondocking in Alaska.
