Bad news never come easy

My family practictioner ran a PSA test on me a few weeks ago and the results were high. He referred me to Urologist and a postrate biopsy was performed Nov 30. Unfortunately, it came back positive. I am a Vietnam Vet and was in the area where Agent Orange was used. Prostrate cancer is one of the fallout as a result. I have a CATSCAN and MRI 17 Dec with a followup with my doctor 31 Dec. I will be undergoing treatment in Jan 2010. I urge any Vietnam Vet that were possibly exposed to Agent Orange have a PSA test at least every six months. I ask that you remember me in your thoughts and prayers and I will see you around the campfire soon.

George-I had my prostate removed last year because of cancer. I joined a cancer support group called Man to Man. It's just a bunch of guys who have or had prostate cancer. I said "had" because I really don't know how to refer to post operative results that remove all of the cancer according to the doctor.

There is a wealth of information on the web and if you do get into the Man to Man group, there probably will be lots of answers to your questions. There are many different procedures for treating the cancer and the survival rate is one of the highest for cancer.

I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.

I forgot to mention that a call to the American Cancer Society will give you more information on the Man to Man program.

Jay Bird, hang in there sir. From one Viet Nam vet to another my prayers are with you and your family. And just to let you know, just had my PSA test for the same reasons that you did. And fortunately for me the numbers came back good. That agent orange **** was nasty to say the least. Hang tough, if you can make it through the Nam, you sure can whip this.

Good Luck
Dave & Linda

As a Vietnam Veteran myself and probably exposed I will have to keep an eye on it. I do get screened now once a year. In the mean time our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.

George,
Sorry to hear this, unfortunately it's something that a lot of us men will have to deal with sooner or later. I saw a list of what the government is finally admitting can be caused by Agent Orange and was amazed by the length of it. Good luck and we'll be praying for you
