Stabilizer Jacks
We have purchased a new Montana High Country Fifth Wheel. I have posted many issues we are having, and Keystone has started to help me get past some of them.. I have a question on the stabilizers.. We have the four electric Stabilizers, and they do not seem to do a good job keeping the coach stabilized. I put pads underneath them and also have the chocks that go in between the tires on each side. We still have a lot of movement in the coach.. It is a model 330 rl and 39 feet long.. My wife at 115 pounds moves the coach when she walks.. Do I need to put a king pin stabilizer on? Or is there a better way to do the jacks? It is auto leveling and that works well.. Any thoughts? The 5er still sits on tires and springs. There will always be some movement. I bought a kin pin tripod long ago. Had a hard time giving it away ~ a waste. One friend is a bit obsessed and carries 2 stabilizers he cranks up at the rear of his 5er and says it helps. The only way is on a foundation ~ jack her up and set it down on cement blocks.

A king pin tripod isn't go to help with that movement it's like CaptnJohn said most the movement is the tire and springs. you can get stabilizers that go on your leveling jacks that will help a lot if you want to spend the money!

You did not state what type of chocks you are using. If using x-chocks, have you tried tightening them up after you have leveled? The suspension allows the wheels to spread further apart as the levelers lift up the frame.

"Four electric stabilizers". If that had read "Six hydraulic stabilizers" you wouldn't be having this issue. Manufacturers should ONLY use 6 hydraulic on fivers over 30-32' in my opinion. Our previous 2012 3585SA and the current Montana were/are rock steady.

Agree, 4 stabilizers on a 39 foot is insufficient. You might try augmenting with Stacker Jacks which 20 years ago was what most of us used, and some still do. Available on line or at Parts dealerships. Could also use bottle Jacks.

Six point system with x chocks installed after being disconnected and level works for us until the dryer is running. LOL.

We had much the same issues with our unit. Being older it didn't have the level up system. King Pin jack helped very little. Sold it and went with steady fast system, http://www.steadyfast.com/index.html and x-chocks. We have been very pleased with the results for several years. Adding to what jeffba said, retension the x-chocks after the tires cool down. Makes a big difference.

Never a wiggle with the dryer but sometimes a wiggle when the washer goes to spin. Usually not noticed even when both washer and dryer are running.

If you have the legs extended quite a bit you may want to add more blocks to the ground before stabilizing. The longer the legs have to extend then the more unstable the rv becomes whether 4 legs or six legs. I have 6pt leveling and i carry extra blocks so that my legs do not have to extend more than 8 to 10 inches. Even 6pt leveling can be unstable if legs extend to far.

Following H. John Kohl's lead, I installed simple scissor jacks in front of the wheels. I raise the nose with the landing gear to about four degrees (I have a Hoppy level mounted over the controls to see this), then wind down the scissor jacks, then lower the nose to 1/2 degree (to let rain run back off the main slide). Then I run the rear stabilizers down. The weight is now on the scissor jacks and off the springs. Very solid.
