Darco fabric torn under slide

I am having a problem with the Darco fabric being torn when the slide comes in. There are two furnace grills the slide rubs on and is tears the fabric. Slide has been adjusted but still rubs. Poor design! Anyway I am thinking of adding some strips of UHMW 3/16 6×35 plastic to the bottom of the slide so the slide will ride 3/16" higher and clear the grills.

Has anyone done anything like this?
How wide should strip be?
How many stips?
Fasteners?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I definitely feel your pain, mine ripped out at the beveled leading edge on the drivers side slide. I used 1/8" x 4" material (4 on the drivers side and 3 on the passenger side) countersunk #6 x 5/8" wood screws with a dab of silicone caulk under each screw penetration. I works great, I hope you have the same success!

My kitchen slide was making marks on the lino. CW tech was reluctant to adjust the slide. He recommended "slide slickers".

Slide slickers.

Make your own. Home depot, Lowe's, menards. $2 each.

Cut it in half, cut off the curved part. Now you have two 4"x24".
Lay them over your floor registers before you bring in the slide.

What kind of material did you and where can you purchase it? Thanks so much. I am having the same issue.

Have a look at Chucks Darco repair in the files section.
It's the best out there.

I am on my fourth year of use of my UHMW repair on one of my hydraulic slide Darco bottom coverings.. I used 0.125 thickness UHMW material for my repair and there have been Zero issues in four years now..

The slide skis also are good if properly installed ( must remove drip strips , install skis and reinstall drip strips )..

The item I was most concerned with was gear pack teeth to guide bar teeth mesh when the slide extends or retracts .. this short video shows the repair , material used, and a couple of motion clips of my gear packs after installing UHMW..

The slide with the UHMW is much smoother regrading movement and much quicker during its movement

** some had concern the countersunk wood screws might come out. I have had zero issues with the screws..I applied a dab of proflex sealant to each screw threads before installing..

I am planning on using HDPE from my local plastics dealer. I have to scap in parts on the floor and I think I'll use a rubber coat and the strips of the HDPE to glide over the ramp. Is that essentially what you have done?

I will be doing mine in a couple weeks. I don't think
I will use rubber under the skids. I will use an adhesive under the skids to assure water proofing.
Skids will be secured with stainless steel screws that will be secured over the damaged Darco.
Good luck!
