I love your sugar skull decals! We are thinking going with that day of the dead motif inside. Our last motorhome had a magaritaville motif inside and out but we though a dotd theme would be better suited to our new home in the southwest.

If you can't obtain original decals or if you just want something to stand out from the crowd, you might give these a try.

Well, back to square one. We successfully got all the decals off -- using a combination of heat gun/scraper, eraser wheel, and wet sanding. Had the guy come out to buff and wax and he declined to do the job.

So, we're back to deciding what to do. On a rig this old, I doubt I want to spent the $$$$ to go to a shop and have them do it.

The guy who was going to do the work said that he uses Mequir's boat and rv oxidation remover. I'm a little worried about spending the big bucks on the chemicals that supposedly remove oxidation because I've read mixed review of their effectiveness on older rigs. I'm thinking that the best way may be to wet sand first to cut the oxidation, then follow with some sort of chemical, then wax.

Thoughts?

I'd take it to a body shop for a complete paint job.

Not worth that kind of money on a rig this old.

Just curious, what kind of money are we talking about for a full paint job?

Would a vinyl wrap be any cheaper or more expensive?

Personally I would talk to a boat shop and see what they use on boats if you are talking about fiber glass but the sides aren't that? I thought they were painted aluminum. I haven't tried to do mine yet but I have some good stuff I use on my show cars that works great. I just look down the side of mine and wonder how old I would be when I get to the end LOL
It took me more than a week to do my GT500

I just watched this video yesterday, they painted their Airstream the other day using Eastwood brand primer, top coat, and spray gun.

I was thinking about using the Zep floor polish, but since it doesn't have UV protection, I think I am going to try the Poliglow product. Two part product, one part to prep/clean/deoxidize and the other to polish it. It's pricier, but may give better results. With our forty footer, looks like we'll need two kits, but I think I'll give it a go. Two kits are $160 on Amazon, but that still less than half of what the guy was going to charge to buff/wax it.

I removed my graphics on my 2005 and it was a job! Removed oxidation by buffing with Meguire’s One Step compound 67. M6732 with high speed buffer and wool bonnet from HFT. I was amazed with the results. If you are retired like me you should have the time. I am totally happy with the results!

Well, she’s going to stay naked!

Got ready to put decals on and found that the top sheet that you peel off after placing the decal is stuck to the top of the graphic like masking tape! Trying to remove the top paper pulls the graphic off the RV. I got the small Montana sticker on the back and it was pulling away as well but thought it was error on my part. This morning I went to put on on the side Montana stickers on and saw the the face paper was sticking to the vinyl. Went inside and checked. All of the graphics are like that — the top paper is stuck to the graphic like masking tape. No way it’s coming off without messing up the vinyl.

So, a complete set of Montana graph wasted because the PO stored them either too long or in too much heat or both. What a waste.

But we are doing the poly glow and so far, I’m pretty happy with it.

Here’s the front and rear caps...

I have never been noted for my memory. And it has been a number of years since I replace my decals. But I sure do not remember the decals I got as having a top paper on them. Only a backing paper.

That is a nice shine on the front.

Decals need to be "burnished" on both sides before trying to peel back front and back protective cover.

I have a plastic tool used for installing decals, it's made of hard plastic. To burnish, place decal on flat surface. Rub protective cover with tool at 45 degree angle. Apply a bit of pressure, do all of one side. Then flip and do other side (if both sides have protective cover).

Then apply decals using the "book" method.

This is a process I learned from a professional installer.

I agree that the decals need to be burnished. Go to YOUTUBE and and look up burnishing decals and book method for install.

Curious about price for full paint? About $12,000 and up. Shop in Red Bay, AL will do it and do it right. They do a lot of follow up work for Allegro. Price depends on color of paint and number of colors. Don't think that includes removing decals.

Ryobi buffer

Anybody use the ryobi cordless buffer for their Monty?? I’ve used Milwaukee cordless tools for business, but their fuel M18 buffer polisher is $217 just for tool? About $159 for the ryobi with 2 batteries and charger??
