Legacy Package Rear Cap

Question: Does the rear cap offered in the Legacy Package offer any additional structural benefits, better sealing of the rear? Thanks for your replies.

As far as I know there is no additional structural benefits to the rear cap but it does give the rear of the unit a little more stylish look and air deployment with less drag as far as I'm concerned. I may be wrong but this is how I see it anyway.

Have had it both ways and I feel the rear "cap" is a waste of money and has no real benefits. We now have the standard flat back and it stays clean MUCH longer than the rear cap on our previous units.

There is more to the legacy package than the rear cap.

Of course there is but the OP specifically asked about the rear cap.

I like the rear cap but it is a dirt collector.

Yes I do notice that the rear cap gets quite dirty after towing to your destination. I always hose mine down when returning home before it goes in the pole barn.

We have also had both. I like the look or the rear cap, but really didn't want the rest of the legacy package. The flat back does stay a lot cleaner.

I like my rear cap but it does get dirty. I've had both and the reason I like the cap is it's rigid and doesn't show temperature related warping like my Cougar did.

For what they charge for the Legacy Pkg or full body paint you can keep it. I have heard a lot of folks have had issues with them coming loose or leaking bc they do weigh wmquite a bit more then a flat back panel but it does look nice on Montana’s and I think maybe 10% of units produced have them most do not have the legacy Pckg.

Legacy Pkg in a Montana gives you

Solid Cabinets all around
Power retracting 50 amp reel
Rear Fiberglass Cap
In Command Computer System

This pkg costs around $6500
Full Body Paint adds close to $10,000 to the price

They must change what comes with the legacy pkg. In 2016 it included the painted rear cap, quiet cool a/c, mor/ryd lre 4100 suspension, mcd day night roller shades on windows, premium level fiberglass exterior, heated floor in bathroom and bedroom, cherry cabinet framing.

We enjoy all these features for looks and functionality.

The 'special' cap in the rear is only a fibeglass shell, no more, no less. it is just hollow

but it looks neat.

The power retractable 50amp reel is more trouble than its worth. The compartment is too tight and you really have to be careful when retracting the cable or it jams.

Have had rear caps on my last six rigs. Never an issue with coming loose or leaking.

If you are considering the Legacy Package, You might want to compare your cost against the Alpine.
