5th wheel hitch

On our way to Myrtle Beach we encountered problems with our 99 Dodge Dually with a Cummins diesel. We found out that the fuel injector pump was malfunctioning and it could be an expensive repair. To make a long story short, we traded truck in Myrtle Beach and bought a new 2007 Dodge Ram dually with another Cummins diesel. Love that diesel! My question is; the dealership is transfering my hitch to the new truck and since it has a bed liner, I am told they will need to cut it out for the bed rails to fit. I am sure that I have seen other trucks with 5th wheel hitch that use a spacer between the rail and the bed liner, where no cutting of the bed liner is necessary. The guy at Camping World (where the work is to be done) says it's not possible. Has anyone seen those spacers before, and where can they be obtained. The truck is scheduled for Friday am.

Giddyup!

Same here, would not be a sound fit to use a spacer without he plastic liner under it. Not good idea, needs to be cut if you want the liner to stay. Another option is to get spray in liner then attach the hitch.

I'd quick go with a spray in lining because it would seem to me that drop in would leak under those cuts. At least that's what it always looked like to me.

Yup, my drop in is cut...I did the cutting and installed the hitch. Not happy with the look and am still pondering what spray in to go with...

Since our dealer "gave" us the drop in liner we have to live with it. We had once before and really not had a problem. Our RV techy puts silicone around the cut and rebar between the liner and the bed of the truck for stability. Been there for 1 1/2 years and no problem so far.
Happy trails................

I have installed a few fifth wheel hitches. The nice folks above are all correct. I have a thick rubber mat that I had to cut to fit around my hitch rails.

If you insist on using the drop-in liner it will have to be cut in order to install the hitch. My advice is to pull out the drop-in liner and have a good spray on liner (Rhino Liner or Linex) put in, then install the hitch.

Thanks to all for the response. I guess it will be cut as suggested. I just hate to cut up something new I guess.
Happy New year.

I have a '04 Dodge with Turbo Cummings and they cut mine. Have not seen one that hasn't been cut.
