Waco TX, campgrounds
After doing an exhausting search on this site and others I have found out very little about where to stay when we travel there this November. We are not full timers and plan to spend a week near Waco visiting a close friend of the family that is attending Baylor University. We plan to travel to San Antonio one day and then spend the night near Laredo. Getting up the next morning and crossing the border for some site seeing and shopping. We will most likely leave the trailer in Waco for a couple of days unattended. So, I am really looking for a secure park. Any help in where to stay or better yet where NOT to stay would be great. Thanks in advance!

Ron-
There is a Corp of Engineer Park at Lake Waco. All Corp parks I have stayed in lock their gate at 10PM. Direction to it from I-35.. exit 330 on Highway 6 west 7 miles to Speegleville Road and then east 2 miles. Phone number is 254-756-5359. I have not stayed here so I can not rate it.
I have a friend that has a daughter that lives at Waco and he stays at a park called Shady Rest RV Camp. I-35 exit 342B and go south on US77 just past Spring Lake Road and park is on the right. Phone number is 254-799-3105. Address is 3096 New Dallas Highway. He rates it as a very good park to stay at.

Ron, we haven't been in a Corp campground that wasn't very nice. They are usually well-cared for. Keep in mind that they don't usually have a sewer connection. If you're old enough, 62 or over, you can stay for half price. It's one of the best bargains out there. Try ReserveUSA for more information and a place to get your reservation. "Corp Lakes" in your Google search will also get you to an informative site.

I seen a few corp. campgrounds and was looking at a couple of them as possibilities. I was going to see if any one here had anything bad to say about any parks in that area or any ones that really stood out as above and beyond the rest. Thanks for everything so far. Ron

we arrived at Riverview campground just East of Waco Saturday. Drive was uneventfull as we took the big roads down here. Averaged about 9mpg for the trip. Not as good as I was hoping for, but, we did have to fight the wind for the first half of the trip. It was great to leave Iowa when it was 7 degrees the night before we left and arrive here to near 70 degree highs. Was disappointed we didn't see a single Montana the whole trip down here. But there was one here when we arrived at the campground. When I get my first cup of coffee down I will venture over and intruduce myself and see if they know about the MOC.
