Military campgrounds in Alaska
For those of you with a military I.D. who plan to travel through Alaska, I would encourage you to use the Army and Air Force FamCamps. They are generally very nice facilities within a natural setting. Even the campgrounds around Fairbanks and Anchorage are in wooded areas. And the price is lower by about $10.00 per night. We have stayed at Eielsen AFB, Elmendorf AFB, Seward Resort, and Fort Richardson. The last one is the only campground of the four that has sewer connections. It also offers free laundry.
Seward Resort is the nicest of all the facilities and in the most beautiful location. It is also the only one that will take reservations, which are almost always necessary because it is such a popular place. Reservations can be made a long time in advance (possibly one year)through their website. It is important that you make your fishing charter reservation at the same time as they were full when we arrived. We had made our reservation several months ago. They have a great laundry and two large fish cleaning houses for the use of residents. They also have yurts and motel rooms if you plan to travel without your Montana.
Just wanted to share this info.
