Oyster Color - Help!

My husband put a few small scrapes in our Monty when we first got her (those extra seven feet!). He bought a marine grade fiberglass repair kit where you can mix your own color. He is finding it nearly impossible to even come close to the Keystone "Oyster" color of our unit.

Has anyone else mixed the oyster color? Or conversely, any suggestions on how to mix the correct color?

I'm a bit pickey on my toys ... bite the bullet and get it done professionally ... those $30 - $50 color match repair kits work fairly well for the primary colors, but no so well towards something like "oyster". I fear you will end up with something more eye catching than a scratch here and there. If they are shallow enough ... 1500 grit wet / dry sandpaper followed up by a power polisher may be an alternative to "hide" the ouchy.

Yep, let the guys who do it all the time handle the work. John

We have a company (industrial auto paint) which will come out to your rig on the street and using a special camera will mix either a spray can or a touch up bottle of paint which matches your point color exactly. Similar machine to what they use at Home Depot, but portable. I had touch up for both colors made for under $25. Presume similar outfits exist in your neck of the woods. Probably call an auto paint shop and they would know.

Those color cameras do work ... O'Reilly Auto used to offer the service here in Wichita, but you had to bring what you wanted matched to the store. They'd mix it up and if you were satisfied, put it in an aerosol can. EPA kept ridding their ### about something with their process, so O'Reilly quit doing aerosol can color match. How do you figure to "touch up" the high gloss side of your fiver with an aerosol paint can as far as blending it in as not to show?

Unfortunately we can't paint it till the rather deep gouges in the body are filled in. Though the scrapes are small in length, they're deep. And if we could just get the color of the fiberglass repair right, we'd be fine.

If there is one thing I learned from years of boating, that was leave fiberglass repair to the professionals.

For anyone who stumbles across this in the future, Keystone's "Oyster" color is very close to Sherwin Williams "Oyster White". We had a very nice man at our local Sherwin Williams write down the color mix formula for Oyster White. My husband is going to try it out as soon as we get a good weekend.
