The dreaded Red regulator
I was testing the rig today to get ready for a ten day trip and have never tried to see if the propane would run from the curb side. Well, it's a full tank, tried all the tricks, but no gas flow from that side. To make sure, swapped tanks. Tank is fine on the street side. Still under warranty, so not so bad, and not cold here so not a big deal. Just wonder how many have had the red regulator problem.

Could be the excess flow valve which in located in the pigtail that attaches to the tank.
I removed the tail from the red regulator and opened the tank.
Propane didn't come thru the hose.

That red regulator has been a problem for years...change it and you'll be fine.

This has happened on our present and last Montana and I too was convinced the red had failed. Both times our dealer talked us through how to unlock an air lock and/or the locking of that flow valve in the pigtail. One must open those valves extremely slowly, and I mean extremely slowly, otherwise if you listen real closely as you open those valves you will head a slight click indicating that excess flow valve has closed, tricky thing it is.

Replaced mine twice. The third time it died I took it to Lowe's or Home Depot, can't remember which, and found adapters to connect the black pipe to the hose without the red regulator. The size/threads on one side are different than on the other so take it with you. That was several years ago.
Prior to a few years ago our Montanas did not have that regulator. If you opened the bottle on that side too quicklly the safety valve in the newer tanks thought there must be a leak and shut off the flow. The red regulator prevents that from happening by reducing the flow. It may have other purposes but that's one function. With those older models we learned to open the valve on that bottle slowly so the lines would fill with propane but at a reduced rate. And that's how I handle it today. No more red valve. No more problems.

Mine never had one Steve and I like it like that. The dealer tryed to get me to install one when I had trouble in 06 under warranty but he said since mine didn't come with one I would have to pay for it. I changed the auto reg and that fixed the problem. I have changed that one 2 more times.

Just realized I got the adapter fittings from an Ace Hardware. Neither Lowe's nor Home Depot had what I wanted, at least not those I was in.

Marshall is the maker of the OEM regulators. If in doubt, call them and they can tell you the exact model to get.
