Lippert drawers under frame

I got these at the last Goshen Rally. They were awkward to install because the spans between the front and rear I-beams are different and the drawer slide frame is sized for the front, including a bracket that accommodates the propane line. But, with some good old English and creative use of self-tappers, the installation was done last fall in our driveway.

The spare tire fits under the coach, between the drawers. It's hoisted into place by a simple drum-and-cable winch, and therein lies the rub. In the fall, I winched it hand-tight with the "brace-and-bit" style wrench for travel to the dealer an hour-and-a half away. I didn't think to check it for the return trip home before winter. I crawled under the coach today to check the air pressure in the spare, only to discover the spare swinging with about an inch of slack on the cable. I tightened the winch again, but now I have something to check out frequently. Too bad I have to crawl under to do this. Maybe I can poke it with a hockey stick from the curb...I'll post how this works out.

I had mine come down on me on our first trip, but it hasn't been an issues since. I suspect it wasn't snug to begin with.

I installed a strap across it just in case. The spare hasn't move in 3 years.

Being from Canada Dave, you should know exactly how to use that hockey stick! I guess I'll have to check mine before heading out! Come to think of it, I think my brother said something last fall about the spare being loose when I parked it for it's winter sleep. Guess I'd better get out the wrench and tighten that cable! Thanks for the alert! See you guys in September!!

I'm guessing that the wire cable "settled" onto the drum and maybe stretched a bit. In Canada, we have hockey sticks in the living room to poke the buttons on the TV to pick which game to watch. See you in the fall, Ron.
