And the Pin Box Bolts Too!
I mentioned in a previous post that I checked my hitch bolts and found them to need tightnening. Well that prompted me to check my pin box bolts. Yep. only 2 of the 12 bolts were properly torqued. The other 10 were snug, but definitely not as tight as they should have been.

Bill, you might share the # on the torque, if you would.

Can't help with the OEM pin box, but here are the numbers for the 5th Abn:
1/2" bolts: 110 ft/lbs
5/8" bolts: 160 ft/lbs
3/4" bolts: 210 ft/lbs

Ozz, I replaced my lippert pin box with the MorRyde and I torqued all to 150 ft/lbs. This was the advice of my nephew in law who was a machinist mate in the Navy. It that is not correct, Maybe someone could share with us.....

Me thinks torque specs will change according to the grade number of the bolt you are using. Phil if you used the original pin box bolts the 150 ft lbs should do ya.

In the early days of our marriage I "lost" Doug...when I found him, he was outside with his head under the hood of one of our cars. I knew that we were not experiencing any problems with it so was a bit bemused by what he might be doing. When I asked, he said that he was checking all the connections and nuts/bolts to make sure they were all properly seated/tightened. I was intrigued by that and asked him why he would do something like this as shouldn't everything be okay and it was all (presumably) tightened and checked when the car was made? (Hey, I was young...only 21...not yet jaded or seasoned with any real life experiences in the "real" world!) His reply was that while that might be true initially, anything that is subjected to the vibrations, bumps, and shakes like connectors and nuts/bolts in a car should be checked periodically for tightness. Another good thing about doing this periodically other potential problems can be identified early for preventative vice reactive maintenance/repair. So now, when Doug is "lost" one of the first place I look for him is under the hood of one our vehicles!
There is something to be said for the adage "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!"

I am not sure what mine should be. I torqued them all to 110 until I can find the correct number. I had to turn 10 of them quite a bit just to get to 110.
