What brand AC for 2nd?
I want to get a 2nd AC for our 3295. Are there any brands you would recommend over Brisk Air?

Friend of mine put in a Carrier and loves it. He uses it in a toyhauler but uses the garage for a computer repair shop.

Check out the new units offered by Camping World. Got the catalog while we were at the beach and it was shown on the front page. Looked like a reasonable price too. I am strongly considering having our dealer install the 13,500 this winter if it will utilize the already installed 2nd ac prep. It is a higher profile model. Neat feature if I remember correctly is it is HEPA-style filter equipped. Link is:

While we were looking for the 2nd a/c, I looked at the Carrier specs. From what I saw, they can not be mounted at the angle on the front of the Montana without the use of gasket shims. IIRC, the shim is also required on the underside to keep the outer and inner parts parallel. This was a little more trouble than I wanted to go to use the Carrier. I saw some good buys on the Carriers, but by the time you do all the above, looks to me like you add to the price. Not sure if you can buy shims or not, and I sure wouldn't want to have to make them (wood?). So, when the dealer quoted what DW and I thought was a good price on the Penguin, that's why we went with it.(Plus the low profile) BTW, I noticed last night that PPL Motorhomes in Houston has them on sale.

We have the low profile carrier with heat strip on the front and it works great.

My advice would be to get the most common unit, that way, on the road with any problems, most RV dealers will be able to honor the warranty.
I went with the same unit that came with my Monte. Duo Therm Quick cool.
I'm a Carrier dealer, but there are not that many Carrier distributors on the road. IMO.

Take a look at this site; http://www.airv.carrier.com/Files/Ai...e/71RC6A54.PDF
The Carrier units are not supposed to be below 0* on the front. I would think using these without shimming would lead to possible early compressor failure. My dealer mentioned installing the Carrier and I would not buy it. Early on I had actually thought about buying a Carrier and moving the Dometic to the front as it will take the slope. Perhaps Ozz will weigh in on this subject.

Well, the oil in the bottom of the compressor has to be level, or the life of the compressor will shorten, they can stand a little tilt, but not much. So Will, I agree.
