We are Home..... NOTHING.... There ought to be a law about these weather forecaster's on local TV scarring the H*** out of folks. They are looking at The same NWS radar that I am and I see severe weather but nothing else and Helen and I know how to read this stuff. Anyhow rain, Boom, Boom, nothing else...anywhere. The weather radio is going off warning of severe conditions that COULD produce tornados and the local Tv is reporting Tornado's, take cover.. Anything to sell airtime.. Oh well....

Rich& Helen, We were told (by our local station), even if our county had a small corner in the warning area that "they" were required to sound the alarm for the entire county. "They" being the weather service. Not sure if the station was covering thier buts or if the statement they made is correct. Steve

We have one of the Radio Shack units and it does go off often, but I can get around that by scrolling through the weather channels. I usually an in the area of at least two and some times three. Try listening to them and locate the nearest to your location. I usually get the most alerts when in Fla. and am within the range of two or three stations. The false calls usually come from one of the more distant stations... Dave

Now that it is over there were no tornado's at all in the area, in fact anywhere, but there were some straight line winds which is More normal for such a storm. The NWS only reported conditions that could produce tornado's. The local Tv was reporting that Tornado's were eminent.

What is the difference between a Tornado Watch & a Tornado Warning?
A tornado watch is just to let folks know to be on the lookout for a possible tornado in the area whereas a Tornado Warning is a notification that a tornado has been seen or picked up by radar.

Tornado Watch
A Tornado Watch is issued to alert people to the possibility of a tornado developing in your area. At this point, a tornado has not been seen but the conditions are very favorable for tornados to occur at any moment.
Things to do when a Tornado Watch is issued.

The NWS issues these not the local TV station. I am really becoming that I do not trust the media for accurate information.

Ha! The media only tells you what they want you to hear. It is safer for them to report violent weather than to report a light storm because if there is violent weather after just reporting a light storm, they get sued. They also only report what suits there agenda.

I'd rather they report a tornado that's not there than the other way around!

The local Tv stations use the NWS radar and weather reporting systems. They have access to the correct information but IMO tend to sensationalize in order to increase viewership.
