Cedar Key Florida Information ??

Has anyone been to Cedar Key on the Gulf side of Florida. We have checked it out on the web and it is in the top 10 places to visit for small town and biking. Looking at 2 campgrounds Cedar Key Resort and Low Key Hideaway. Any information of the area or campgrounds would be appreciated. It talks about being similar to Key West 50 years ago. We are going for 3-4 days.

Nice little town. The day we went was cold and rainy so we just did a drive through. I think we went on a Tuesday which found most shops closed. I'm sure you will find them open as you will be there 3-4 days.

If you would like to see some aerial view pix, go to
rv-dreams.com and look at Howard and Linda Payne's journal. Look for Jan. 01, 2011 and their is more info at later dates.

Thanks to everyone for your input. After researching the aerial pix's and reviews which included both campgrounds we where thinking of staying we decided to go elsewhere further down the coast that would fit our needs better. Just was not what we where looking for. Tomd thanks for the great information/site to do our research! When we saw the aerial of the cg we where going to book there is not way our 40 ft Montana would fit in there very easy. To tight to narrow. Again thanks to all!

I'll weigh in now that you have decided to go elsewhere! (Just saw the post) We enjoyed our last trip up to Cedar Key, a couple of years back. The town is truly the old Florida I grew up in. However, we camped about 45 mins away at Manatee Springs SP. Plenty of room for the Big Sky. I'm sure you'll find something else you like.

Hey Bill and Cindy!! We traveled there one day as we visited Judy's mom and dad in Homosassa. It was a quaint little town. We spent the day there and had lunch. I don't remember too much about it except the ride there from Route 19. It was LONG and mainly straight.

After some research we decided it would be a nice day trip but not really a place to stay for any extended period of time. Thanks. Looking forward to pulling out in March for our first trip of the season.

We have been to Cedar Key and stayed there in a very darling hotel on the water. While we enjoyed it, we there really isn't much to see that would take more than a day. OK, two at the most. It is charming at Cedar Key, but I wouldn't plan to stay there for very long.

Thanks that's what we thought. We did find a nice campground that would fit our rig miles away but felt not enough to do there for 3-4 days. More like a day trip. Thanks for sharing.

Good day trip, but I wouldn't plan on spending on a lot of time there. Limited places to eat and shop. However I would say, charming little town and worth an overnight. Have been there quite a few times but never more than a weekend and never in the 5'er. I don't know if the Cedar Key Art Festival is still going, but if it is you might want to time a visit during that time in spring of year. The town is much livelier then.
