Carlesbad, New Mexico

We toured the Carlesbad Caverns. WOW!!! A local pointed us to the Carlesbad KOA. It is about 15 miles north of town but worth the drive. It was very clean, the staff was helpful and friendly. There is a pool and spa. Game room and lounge. The slots are all pull through and handled my 3 slides with no problem and no crowding my neighbor. We went to a good Mexican food place in Artesia to the north called La Fonda's.
Happy RV'ing

Thanks, neighbor, for this good information. It has been some time since we have visited the caverns. If we go back in the 5/w we will remember your report. Continue to have a good time and let us know more about your trip.

Trukdoc, we share your exclamations about Carlsbad Caverns. We took most of the guided tours as well as the self-guided ones. And generally explored around the area.

We'd heard good things about the KOA and another park up by the lakes north of Carlsbad. However, we chose to stay a bit closer since we were there for just three nights. We stayed in a park in the town of Carlsbad itself. Mistake. I guess it was ok for a short visit but next time we'll go to one of those up north.

Steve, I had asked a local and it paid off. That was the comment he basically made, that the parks in town were Ok and that was about it. My only complaint about the KOA is that it is so new there were no trees.

You're right, trukdoc, about asking a local. We also ask locals about local non-chain restaurants with local color and have had some fabulous meals that way.

This forum is also a big help in choosing RV Parks.
