RV Park near Carlsbad Caverns
Can anyone recommend a place to stay near Carlsbad Caverns National Park? We have never been to the area. Is there a campground in the park?

I don't believe there is a campground on the park grounds but several in the Carlsbad area. (Trailer Life Directory is a big help when traveling) Enjoy our state it has lots to offer.
Safe travels.

We stayed in Whites City about 6 miles fron the cave and it was nothing real fancy but had full hookups and convient.
They have a motel and a resturant and bar across the street.

Grant,
Here is a link to a review site. The link should open to Carlsbad and work down the list of CGs.

We were in Carlsbad in September. It did not look like the campground in White City was open. I could be wrong. We stayed at the KOA north of Carlsbad city. Very nice park and great hosts.

Thanks Dennis and others,
I have the campground review link. I also have the Trailer Life Campground software.
All of the campground reviews of these areas are negative and I have not found the Trailer Life Campground book or software to be very accurate. I am hoping for some recent personal experience.

We did not find a campground in the park. There is a state park on the right side on the north side of Carlsbad City (near the dam). The KOA is just beyond the state park on the right side. The sites were huge with large grassy areas.

I guess I got my parks mixed up. I don't see a CG in the Park either. Sorry about that.
Grant,
The KOA looks good. A bit pricey (That's one reason we don't use KOA) but when there isn't much else we take what we can get.
Good luck.

We stayed in Carlsbad RV Park in October. White City was closed. It was about 20 to 30 minute drive to the Caverns and the only thing open. It was fine, clean and easy to get in and out. The advantage to staying in Carslbad is the convience to supplies.
Don't miss the evening Bat Flight!

We drove to the Carlsbad RV Park with out a reservation and they told me they did have any sites big enough for our 35 foot 5th wheel. They didn't say they currently didn't have any sites; just they didn't have any sites.
I talked to someone that said they wouldn't stay at the Whites City RV Park even if it was free.
We are currently at the Carlsbad KOA. Expensive at $41 per night but, the spaces are very large. This is the largest KOA I have ever been to. They even have a service where you order dinner and they deliver it to you rig. It is an 80 mile round trip to the caverns and a 30 mile round trip just in to the town of Carlsbad but, it is very quiet at night.
