Loud squeal when bringing in slider

We have a 318RE and are on the road heading from Fl to Utah. Been having a bit of an issue with the kitchen slider hesitating and perhaps that's related to what happened yesterday. Brining in that slider we heard a loud squeal coming from the bottom front of the slider. Sounds like metal on metal. Slider did retract so we moved on and we are in Az headed to Glen Canyon. Have not had a chance to investigate yet but wanted to throw this out to the group for any insight or suggestions on what the issue could be. Anticipating an eventual failure based on the screech I heard. A part I need to lubricate? Have never thought about what the sliders actually roll out on. Will get under the rig in a few hours to explore These are electric cable slides. Thanks for any insight. Ken

Even with electric slides, there must be guide supports under the slides, and these should be lubricated with a dry silicone spray. There are several brands and all work as well as the other. It is suggested to not spray with an oily or grease type lube, as it will collect dirt which will make things worse. Hopefully this will stop the noise.

Thank you both. Yes, see the rollers from the outside hidden behind the weather seal. Bedroom rollers more exposed. Mi should have realized that without the prompting, but too many moving parts to these rigs The close to useless Montana owners manual makes no mention of any maintenance like that.

Your slide is pulled in and out over a "slide bar" inside the wall. Doubt that if the squealing slide is larger than your bedroom slideout that it rides on rollers.

First, make sure your cables are adjusted properly. I keep mine snug, not banjo tight but tight nonetheless. Then buy a couple cans of your brand choice of DRY LUBE, then, with the slideout open, scrunch under the slide out and spray the entire tarp-like material on the bottom of the slide until its completely covered with dry lube. Then, pull the slide in and extend it once again. Repeat the spray process one more time. Should solve your problem. I do mine several times a year and have had zero problems - but, make sure your slide cables are snugged.

See if you can open it partially and thoroughly look for something, like a spoon, under the slideout edge. Check from the outside, too. Look for drag marks on your vinyl floor. If nothing, have your DW operate the slide while you try to find the source of the noise.

Geobet, you were spot on. The bedroom and living room do have rollers but the kitchen slide does not, as you shared. Just wanted to question the use of the dry lube to be sprayed on the tarp material on bottom of slide. Reading the can it seems to be made for the cable system with no mention of applying it to the underside of the slide floor. Has anyone else used the dry lube by spraying on the bottom of the slide?
