Toilet Paper
Ok so here's a true newbie question...in the old days it seems we were told to use only RV type toilet paper for whatever reason. I assume for easier dumping. Is this still true or can regular paper be used in our RV? (the RV paper is worthless) lol

We use Scott that we buy from Walmart and is ok and breaks down. This topic comes up OFTEN and you will get many opinions. But you DO NOT have to use RV TP.

Just buy septic system safe two ply and be a happy camper. The reason for only using rv paper is for them to make more money off you.

We've always used Scott RV paper and since we never had a problem in 8 years of full timing we aren't going to change.

The problem is not the toilet paper. Sure some toilet paper breaks down quicker than others but what's more important is using plenty of water. Thousands of campers have proven that Camco,Thretford or anyone elses rv toilet paper is a ripoff. We finally have a toilet like the dometic 320 that is very much like our residential toilets and now many people are using other brands of toilet paper. Feels like home.

Texan and AZ Traveler are spot on. Must use lots of water. I use any TP except the RV branded; it's worthless.

The COSTCO TP has the same embossing pattern as spendy RV paper. Doing a test with some of each in a glass with water yielded identical results for dissolving.

We have only ever used Scott's RV found at Walmart. Really not that expensive and have never had an issue. The way I look at it is like the old saying goes "pay me now or pay me later". Friends of ours used the same wipe as they used in their sticknbrick for years, swore by it. Finally it caught up to them and got stuck in their gate valve. Not a mess you want to deal with while traveling, or any other time IMHO.

Costco for us also and the only reason is that it is tougher (harder to put your fingers through it) than any other brand we have used. Hopefully that wasn't too much information...lol. We have used lots of other brands without any problems. The secret to it all is to put at least two full bowls of water down your toilet after you dump. You need water in the tank to stop the "pyramid of doom".

Greetings, i see you have the DEMCO auto slide. I was considering that unit for my F 250 short box but may decide on the COMPANION OEM hitch without the slider. Many forums indicate that the 6 3/4’ box will work just fine with my unit (2018 High Country) but I have a until May to make a choice. Thoughts? Thanks and happy trails.

I see you have an F 250 for pulling your RV. I am looking for info to help make a decision for my hitch. I have the a short box (6 3/4’) and am considering a fixed hitch. I just purchased a high country 365BH. I know the caps have been redesigned but wanted inputs regarding your thoughts on a fixed hitch. Thanks so much and happy trails

Just passing on a warning givin to me by a septic tank pumping company. I live in the country on a ranch. Approximately every 4 to 5 years we have our septic tank pumped. We had been using the Costco brand toilet paper. The second the septic tank truck operator opened the septic tank the operator said he could tell we were using Costco toilet paper because the paper was not breaking down in the tank. He said most all the problems they have is with tanks that have been using Costco paper.

If you dump every couple of days or so why would that be a problem? I would think as long as there is enough water in the tank to flush everything out breaking down in the tank should not matter. We have a septic at our house too and have it pumped out about every 2 years. Just wondering.

We use the Charmin Ultra SOFT (not the ultra strong). It did well in the “water in the jar shake test”. Use lots of water and reasonable amounts of paper. (Did I mention, use lots of water.) We also use an enzyme based digester (TankTechsRX) in the black tank (a whole ‘nuther thread! Bet this brings lots of additional comments )
When we first started camping, the wife required significant “re-training” regarding the amount of TP necessary to actually get the job done verses the “half roll at a time” approach.
FYI, with two of us in the S&B, we have our 1200 gal septic tank pumped once every five years. It’s nowhere near full and could easily go twice that long. But, its cheap maint ensuring we don’t have any problems.

Hogwash. Put some COSTCO tp in a glass of water and it dissolves the very same as RV paper.
The RV paper my friend and I used in this comparison test had the vary same embossed pattern as the Costco paper. Same ply also.

Also remember, these are holding tanks, not septic systems. I don't care if stuff breaks down or not as long as it flushes out. Lots of water!
