3rd AC
Now that Keystone is preping rigs for a third AC unit, has anyone added one and if so, what is your opinion of the addition.

If my Cougar was wired for it I certainly would have put a 15K whisper in it!

As bad as my two AC's do in cooling the rig down I would be interested. Probably be up to a seventy amp plug in.

After our experiences in the SW last summer in temps of well over 100 with the heat sucking capabilities of this pretty dark colored Big Sky we would consider a third A/C IF they can run at the same time.

This is the problem with putting in a 3rd AC. Where you gonna get the juice to run it along with everything else? Only way I can think of is to put it on a separate 30 amp circuit with it's own 30 amp shore plug & cable. Most pedestals are wired with the 50 and 30 amp breakers/plugs separate so this might work.

With the PT 50C we can determine what is on each leg and how much the draw is. .We know the two A/C's we have now are on separate legs. The 3rd A/C would have to go on one of the legs that already has a A/C on it. My guess is that 2 A/C s on one leg would draw near 25 amps alone. The big amp draws as you know are the A/C, hot water tank,Washer dryer. MW a toaster can draw 8 amps as can a electric heater/fireplace.We have a Kil-O Watt meter that can measure each plug in appliance and we have done so. Will do some checking this summer.

I believe that 25 amps for two ACs would be running, not starting. I measured our single 15k AC hitting 18 amps when first starting, but we've a newer one now with a soft start capacitor.

I heard that only 2 run at a time. They just cycle for example 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 or 1 and 3 to get it more even in the RV.

you are correct. That would occur IF you started them up at the same time
I note that right now with nothing running in the Montana parked on our property and plugged into 50 amps, no lights on, no Tv on fridge on propane we draw1 amp on leg one and 2 amps on leg 2.

If this is the case, why have a third in the first place? A couple of fans moving air around would be a whole lot less expensive. If you've a dark colored exterior, no shade, outside temps over 95 and don't want to add insulation to the windows, all three would probably need to be running to get your inside temps to below 80. Once they were all running, the current requirements can be handled by a 50 amp feed - but getting them running and not cycling would have to be done manually.

You are exactly right about that our 2 A/C,s ran day and night in OK,TX, NM and AZ this summer in temps reaching as high as 114 Degrees. It was 107 in Shawnee, Ok in July. The inside walls on our pretty dark colored Big sky were 90/95 degrees. We are interested to see how Keystone will handle the 3 A/C's.

Geez! We were in the middle of CA two years back in 114 degree weather & no shade. Our older WHITE Monty was cooler than that with only one AC - but we had all the windows blocked with double thick bubble & mylar insulation and our awning out. Definitely says something about those darker colors!

We were shooting 121 degrees on the black and dark gray exterior colors and 90/95 on the inside walls. The 2 A/C,s kept us @ 80 degrees inside temp. There is nothing wrong with our A/C's they are doing their job. It was just to hot for them to keep up.Don't know what I was thinking buying that dark colored Big Sky.

Once again I am very happy we have the old white exterior. 2 A/Cs keep us very comfortable even in the Southeast at the hottest times.

Have to agree on the bland old white in lieu of the dark colors. Our 15k and 13.5k have kept us cool in temps as high as 106 with no shade.

I think if you balanced the legs on the electrical you could run all 3. When we were full timers I found out that I could run both ac's on 30 amps.

I'll bet your second AC wasn't another 15k btu one. That's the only way you could do that. I could run our previous bumper pull's 10k one with a single Yamaha inverter generator that maxed at 2,400 watts. It wouldn't start the 15k btu one on our Monty though.

You switch everything to gas. Then you set one 15K to 60 then you set the other 15K to 72 then you will only have 1 compressor that will kick in from time to time. If you want to run the microwave then you have to turn off one ac.

Yup, when it comes to knowing what things are drawing in his rig, Dennis is the man. I suspect if you install the third AC you may have to install a management system that won't let them start at the same time, but I don't know that, hence this thread.

Exactly. We do that now with the two A/C,s .We set the one in the front bed room at a higher temp than the one in the rear. The front A/C cools a smaller area and cold air being heavier than hot air spills down to the lower front area.
I am fairly confident that we can run 3 A/C,s with both the 13.5,s on the same leg.We did the check on leg draw some time ago but I forgot the exact results.
The 3rd A/C is not high on our priority list as we try to stay in Moderate climates year round. The two A/C did keep us "comfortable" in the 100 to 114 Degree temp last summer but it was a chore for them.
