Our first retirement trip

Gail and I left Twin Mills down in Howe, IN at 10:00 this morning. Arrived at Lake Leelanau RV Resort in Lake Leelanau, MI at about 5:00 this afternoon. We are next door to Grand Traverse Bay, so-to-speak. Took the scenic route up US 31 almost all the way. The trip was pretty much uneventful.....and I guess that's a good thing.

Thursday, headed up to Mackinaw City to cross the bridge into the UP and then around to Green Bay. We'll make a left hand turn somewhere there and go up to Door County, WI for 3 or 4 days.

Tomorrow, gonna' see if I can do some pan fishing here and do some wine tasting.

Congratulations. I imagine it's tough sleeping when the Supermoon hits your pearly whites when you're smiling that big. Enjoy your retirement.

Hey Dale, look this CG up at Bailey's Harbor at Door. It was a great place to stop and close to Egg Harbor and other sites in the area....

Don't forget a fish boil. We liked Pelletier's. They have a great show of how they do it.

The U P is an awesome place to see the sights any time of the year especially in the fall when the trees are turning color. We are going on a 5 day ride on our bikes at the end of july. I only wish that I was in your shoes and soon I will be. Congrats and safe travels!!!

Congratulations on your first trip! Have fun on your new endeavor!

I just have to know...what is 'pan fishing'? Please note that I am blonde so if this is a truly dumb question go easy on me!

I think "panfishing" is going to a dept store and looking at pans for the 5ver that fit in the cabinets!

Dennis, that is exactly where we are staying!! It was recommended by other members of this club. If I recall, Emmell was one of 'em.

Ron, that is one of the main reasons I've wanted to go up there. My brother-in-law was in the Door a few years back and he was talking about the fish boils with such excitement, thought I'd have to try it myself!!

Ladies, pan fishing is fishing for the smaller fish that you can fry up in a pan. Such as Bluegills, Crappies, Perch, etc. LOL!!! Sometimes you great people crack me up!

I so remember the pan fishing days. When I was a kid, few weeks ago, I remember my Dad and a co-worker would go out on the lake, rowing, and they had their special spot on the far side to fish. They would make the fire pit ready before leaving and us kid's job was to watch for them to start rowing back. When we seen them rowing towards home we told our Mom's and they would light the firepit and by time the boat got to shore, the fish cleaned and ready, so was the fire, and in the pan they went, right on the shore, nothing better, and such great memories of Dad and Doug Marvin bringing in those wonderful "pan fish". Thanks for jogging my memory, and hope your trip is all smiles, and lots of pan fish in your pan. Happy Trails, Steve and Susie

We've been there a couple times with our previous travel trailer, all the way from Southern California.

We love that area and will be back there in about a month or so. We just left SoCal yesterday on Monte's 1st Big Adventure.

Rainer, it is lovely weather here, today. It is in the 80's but, a breeze is blowing and it's very comfortable. We even have a lot of windows open and the air conditioner shut down. It is airing this unit out and life is good. Gonna' find me a fresh meat market and do something on the grill. Yum Yum!!!

Well gang, we made it to the Door last evening! Went across the big bridge and caught US 2 just on the north end. Brought that all the way down to the southern end of the UP. Great scenery!!! Now, setting here in Bailey's Grove and looking to find us a fish boil for tonight or, tomorrow night. Have also made a contact to go out and do some charter fishing for a day. The old Challenger made it here after 10 hours of rollin' down the road with not one issue. Even if it does have the Marathons on it!

God and life is good!

Dale, here is a great fish boil restaurant in Ephraim, WI called the Old Post Office.

http://www.oldpostoffice-doorcounty.com/ They had a demo prior to the dinner so if you go there ask about that to know what time it is done outside.

Dennis, Gail and I drove in to there earlier today and made reservations for tomorrow (Saturday)evening at 7:15 PM. But, we have to be there 20 minutes earlier to watch the prep and we will then be setting outside to dine if weather permits. I never asked what the cost was because, it doesn't matter. I just want to experience the ordeal!!
