If as many say there is no difference between a 3/4 ton and 1 ton truck why in the world do they make them. They could save a lot of money by only making the 3/4 ton if they are the same?? If ony a spring is different why not offer a heaver spring on the 3/4 ton truck as a option instead of manufacturing a whole another truck??? There is something wrong with this picture????

the 3/4 ton h/d has a softer, more comfortable ride. once you add the extra leaf, its a rougher ride. maybe that's why the make them both.

Getting back to the OP's original question --

He stated that the 3665RE's rated pin weight is 2000 pounds. If he's using that figure to determine his truck loading, he's making a mistake. The pin weight of that trailer, loaded, will approach 2800-3000 pounds. He will be way over his GVWR and he should watch his tire/axle loading carefully.

I really wish the manufacturers would not publish dry pin weights. Too many people use that number in their truck calculations, which might cause problems. Who pulls around a "dry" trailer anyway?

On the Ford and Dodge, the difference between 3/4 ton and 1 ton single rear wheel is the rear spring pack. They have the same axles and tires. The air bags will provide the additional rear suspension. In my opinion, you'll be fine. You'll be over some of the numbers, if that bothers you. It doesn't bother me and has never caused a problem for us, not even any stability or seat of the pants comfort problems. However, a dually will provide the additional payload rating to keep you within that rating. I don't see the need but obviously my opinion, which is based on six years of towing and 150,000 towing miles plus an additional eight years of recreational towing, differs from that of some others. Look around and go with whichever way makes you comfortable.
