New gas map

I believe this is new anyway. I know there are a few of these - I use them - but I have never seen this one before I just did a Google search for "diesel prices".

Orders the prices from lowest to highest in a city/region.

Wow what a neat site. Dave thanx for posting. I too have bookmarked it. Should come in quite handy in the future while we travel. Although I am figuring we'll look at it and decide we should just stay put in whatever campground we are in for a while longer to defray the cost of full timing! :sigh: At least we'll know what to expect at the next fuel stop.

Thanks, folks, but I just happened to be the first one to stumble across this site, so I hate to take too much credit.

The one thing that I have noticed is that a lot of their place markers are off slightly on this new site - mostly to the WSW. However, they list the address and I just copy and paste that right back into the regular Map Quest site and it then gives the exact location of the station. Hopefully, they will correct this glitch in the near future.

As another thought, I am using Firefox. Maybe, I'll try IE... Nope - same thing. Slightly off. Still a valuable resource, though.

It is a nice concept, but at least here in L.A. (Lower Alabama), it does not show any of the lower priced outlets, even Wal.Mart is missing.

Thanks a lot. I've bookmarked it also. Took a look for our upcoming road trip and it will help get an idea ahead of time on where to look for fuel. I often second guess myself and end up paying more thinking I might find it cheaper at the next exit. LOL

Thanks Dave, I now have it bookmarked and along with MSN/Auto I should hopefully find the cheapest diesel without going out of my way. I'll be going right by the circle K on University BLVD here in Mobile on our way to the golf course in the morning and with Wally World right across the street should get the best price. That is if they don't jack them up again on Monday. Have been going up about every other day here in Mobile.

Dave,
Thanks, I've added it to my favorites too. I have found, http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gassta...?zip=&src=Netx gives us better data in our area. MSN's prices are updated daily from credit card reporting so it seems to be the most up to date. You have to know the zip code, then scroll down to the best diesel price.

I have also used http://www.gasbuddy.com/. They show the last price update and rely on users so it may not as current.

Ken, I also use both of those sites. This one I liked because of the unique format and the automatic listing of prices from low to high in an area.

Dave,
this is a good reference. However, before taking out to fuel at one of the places, that show their fuel prices to be lower, one may want to hold off unless driving that way. Today and last night I found the cheapest prices around here, as posted on this site, and this evening took off and found that the prices on the pumps were at least 20 to 32 cents off what is posted on this site. However, I also found this site does date the postings; so beware....

For example, the one I found to have the largest descrepancy was the MiraStar 60243 station in Post Falls, ID. The advertised price on this site shows $3.56 (posted 3/6/2008) yet the pump price this evening was $3.84. All the other stations in the area were on an average selling their Diesel fuel in the range of $3.84 to $3.89. There were some above $4.00 but I rarely purchase fuel from them ever because they are known to have the highest prices than any of the other stations.

Maybe these stations here in the Northwest are different in how they advertise their prices. I would like to hear what others have found elsewhere. How do the local prices compare to the posted prices on this site?

Tom, one of the things I look for is a pattern in these stations. The lowest listed price in an area will generally be the station that usually has the lowest price anyway at any given time. So even if the listed price does not match the actual price, that particular station will probably be the cheapest in any case.

Of course, there could be exceptions, and in this current wild west environment of huge double digit price jumps, anything could happen - especially if stations are raising their prices twice a day as Jerzy reported they are doing on Long Island. It would be easy for one station to leapfrog past another.

I seen this link a while back and bookmarked it. I really like it. I also just discovered that it gives almost any type of fuel you ask about. Within about a 5 mile radius of where I live there is a .50 cent difference in diesel fuel price the lowest being 2.39. I have also been watching this site and for the most part it seems to be fairly accurate. It appears to catch up with the prices within a few hours. Simply amazing!

A lot of those "gas" web sites will let you become a "spotter," and you can update the prices as you see them.

This one is the first one I check now in the morning:

Gas Temp Map US

You will get station prices when you zoom in about 2/3 of the way.
