Garmin 2009 Map upgrade

Just noticed on Garmin website that a 2009 map upgrade is coming around the end of April.

Is it truly maps, or just points of interest???

Carol, As I read it, this is an update on the maps loaded on the GPS.

From the Garmin Website:
We are making our map data even better! The North America 2009 map update is scheduled for release in late April. Check back to order a map update for your product.

Well, if they really mean MAPS, and not just points of interest, my comment is

BOUT [s]FLIIPIN[/s] TIME!! errrrrr,

BOUT TIME!

On edit: I am real tired of driving on corn fields, err, roads built on corn fields, or when in the RGV, old sugar cane fields or recycled citrus groves.

Carol, don't you understand, they only upgrade the roads you will never travel. That has been my experience. VBG

Had a Garmin for 4 years, have yet to see road/map updates. I will believe it when I see it! Carol of little faith!

Just downloaded first upgrade I have seen in 4 years for Map Source. Here is the URL http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...ils.jsp?id=209
this site gives you an idea of all the upgrades so far. I have checked areas that I have been routed through fields and rivers and they seem to have not changed. There are no changes for new roads even 4 years old that I can find. The new version is 47.7 MEG bu most of the maps I have looked at seem to have more location info and better main and secondary roads markings. It was free and if another comes out at the end of march I will get that one too.. Dave and Betsy

Carol et al, My understanding re. upgrades is that the new map info is only used in the Nav. mode, i.e. when you put in a Find, or Go To. When you're just driving along, the unit uses the original base maps that it came with. An acknowledged flaw, but good to know. Garmin also has a weblink on their page (don't remember it now) for reporting map errors etc. so they can find new databases to correct them.
Edit- Website for reporting errors or missing data is http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/m...errorForm.html

I have a Garmin Quest, it is about 4 years old and working great. That said I still have some problems that I stated in the last post. The find feature on the road is a pain as the Quest is so small and Betsy doesn't do tech well. So we either have to pull over or wing it. I usually plot from here to there as accurately as I can and just do fuel stops as per The Next Exit. So far so good... Dave and Betsy

Good find...I wasn't aware the 2009 maps were available. I hadn't made the upgrade to 2008 yet as I had read there wasn't much improvement to be appreciated. The next question for me would be - are they going to have updates to this 2009 map? It's barely May of 2008, a map for 2009 has a ways to go yet.

Saw that GPS Magazine is going to do a review on the 09 update. Guess I will wait to see what their evaluation is before I buy.

That will be interesting to hear what they have to say.
I have been thinking about it, but I'll be waiting too.
