NEW GMC TRUCK :)
Well traded my 2003 GMC Sierra 3500 dually for a black 06 GMC -slt 3500 "single"rear wheel.this is loaded with all the bells and wistles, vs the dually which was a work truck........Hope I will be as happy with a single wheel pulling my MONTANA as I was with the dually. This motor has 60 more horsepower and this should help on the hills a bit more. by the way I got $4500.00 in rebates on this truck!
Wonder if anyone else has done this swap and how does it haul the MONTANA
pict tomorrow if I can get some kind person to help size them for this site.

Congratulations! A new truck is always nice and when it's in front of a Montana, it's even better.

Actually, the new designs are not coming out in the fall. You can get an '07 in the fall (but it will be identical to the '06), and will be called a 'classic.' The new model 1500s will start production in Jan 2007, 2500/3500s will not start production until Mar/Apr. This is from two Chevy dealers...I asked the GM guy but he did not know anything (about anything). Also, the 2007s will have around a $2500 price increase to cover the new emission controls. Neither dealer knew if the price increase would be passed on to just diesel owners, all truck owners or all GM owners. They also said the engine would be 'tweaked' so as not to lose any power. No telling when the new version of the 2007s will get to the guy on the street.

Just was talking to one of the Chevrolet dealers I buy trucks from for work and he confirmed what Cat said, 2007 Classic is just a 2006, but doesn't have all the emissions stuff. The real 2007's that come out will have a built in GPS system as an option for the first time! Might be worth waiting, actually I'd wait until 2008 so I don't have a "first year model", I did that once with a car in the 80's and had nothing but problems, I'll let them work out the kinks.

Congrats on the new truck. It will be interesting to hear from you on the comparisons to your previous dually! We have decided our next truck will be a dually. Because GM doesn't make a short box dually currently and the long delays till mid 2007 for the new 3500's we are close to signing for a Dodge Mega Cab. What is up with the long delays for a new model to reach dealer lots anyway? This takes me back to 2000 when GM didn't have a diesel, often wonder how many sales they lost on that one!

Not sure what the 2500HD body style will look like, but this is the set of pics circulating on the Dieselplace.com forum (strictly Duramax/Allison forum). This is the 1500. It would seem strange if GM designed TWO different body styles for their 1500 AND 2500/3500 lines. I know they make different box options, but the cabs are all the same - I thought. Anyway, here they are. Most are having a negative opinion.
(Yes, the hood is puposely cracked open - not sure why. Also, the bed on this has to be a narrower option, it seems, and not a "full" size width - maybe I'm wrong...)

Dave, you said "It would seem strange if GM designed TWO different body styles for their 1500 AND 2500/3500 lines."
Ford has been doing it for a few years now and it doesent seem to have hurt their sales figures.

Never had a dually but I do know the SRW will perform the same duties just as well.
Having a GMC I have noticed a lot more GMC Sierras being purchased than the Chevy Silverados. As these 2 trucks are nearly identical does anyone want to venture an explanation.
Email me the pic and I will be glad to resize it for you.

mpl897, I just had a thought looking at the front of your good looking truck. I remember a GM bulletin that cautioned dealers to check the front license plate brackets. They were being installed upside down. The letters on the backside of the bracket is supposed to be UPSIDE DOWN, or the bracket and plate will partially block the air inlets to the A/C system. This apparently has caused many A/C related consumer complaints, and subsequently triggered a TSB.

Glenn, I read a 2002 review of the GMC 2500HD on a "reviewer's" website. Seems the GMC Sierra (2500HD) is 2" higher than the Silverado 2500HD. No explanation was given as to why on this website.

Glenn, I have noticed that whatever vehicle I have owned, I always seemed to notice them more, I think it is just a human nature thing to notice when someone else has something the same as you do.
