My old Garmin finally broke. Any recommendations on a new GPS?
Looking at a Garmin RV760lmt.

Thanks...

I am using the seven inch magellan that I bought in 2013 and while it works, it is slow to update itself when it is nearing your destination...so I am thinking of replacing it with the same garmin that you are thinking of. Before my magellan, I was using a simple garmin with the small less than five inch screen and no bells/whistles. It was great, but it had no means of knowing I was driving a diesel pusher. John

The 7 inch GPS is far too big for a pick up. Don't ask me how I know.

In general, I like my 760LMT. Like all of them though, it will get you in trouble if you're not careful! I have had several unexplained occasions where the 760 took me a strange path; however, most strange happenings were later explained - usually bad coordinates that were reported.

As far as I can tell, it has kept me out of trouble on low bridges; haven't had any problems with that. However, I have a weight of 11 tons programmed in mine and it routinely routes me over a small bridge with a weight limit of 6 tons in my neighborhood. Like al of them, it all depends on the database it's using. I do like the large screen on the 760 - my windshield is so far away that I need a large screen. The large screen also allows a lot of info to be displayed all the time. It's easy to change between the RV mode and car mode - since I have a fifth wheel I do that a lot.

When it calculates a route it will show you the primary route and usually an alternate if there is one available. The only feature I wish it had is a report of the REASON it is taking you an alternate route, although I don't know of any of them that do that.

A few weeks ago Camping World had a sale for GPS - I think it was Rand McNally, but not sure. It is for RV's and trucks so you can select height, weight, etc. I think it was $239 or so. If I hadn't just bought a new Garmin 2 years ago, I would get it myself.

I use Delorme Street Atlas. It is installed on a Windows pad and will only work on Windows. What I like about it it very versatile you route where you would like to go and how you would like to get there, the road through which state town. It displayes a lot more information than my Garman or my Ford GPS. It shows the names of rivers, lakes, land marks and a lot more. I also have their Topo maps that shows all federal and state land, national forest parks BLM land. I can use the BLM land without getting on private ranch land.
The pad will cost under $200 and the Street Atlas is $35 and if the pad does not have GPS Delorme and Garman have them plug in or Bluetooth.

Camping World still has their RVND7735 GPS on sale for $249 today (6/20). I have one of these (exact same as Rand/McNally 7730) and find it to be very full featured and does a great job of routing and providing information. Of course ANY GPS will make routing mistakes from time to time.

I have also had the Garmin 760 but did not like it as well and I felt it was more prone to "interesting routing" than the CW/RM. Some of the features I use like wifi weather and traffic are not on the Garmin. But then, the CW/RM does not do voice commands. Google "RVND 7735 vs RV 760" and you will find several comparisons of the two units.

The $249 price at Camping World is a steal compared to the Garmin at $310. I recommend getting one of the CW RVND7735 and giving it a try. Camping World does have a return policy, so you have an option if you don't like it.

Do you have a smart phone? The CoPilot app is very good. It also has a setting for your vehicle height so it won't route you on a road with low bridge clearance.

Have used a Garmin 760 for three years now with great results. Still have to keep your eyes open for things, but the traffic updates are great. It is big, but I don't mount it on the dash. Works great on the organizer I've got on the hump.

Thanks for the feedback. I am leaning towards Garmin, only because I can backup my favorites and restore to the new device.

Thanks again..

Prior to retiring I traveled for my Job.I am thinking I purchased my first GPS about 12 years ago a Garmin $999.00
I have purchased 2 since both Garmins.
All have worked well the few times I had to talk to customer service they were fantastic.I would never own another brand just my personal opinion

We use a GPS designed for truckers as we encounter many of the same issues pulling the Montana. We have the Garman 465T it is a older model but 4 times a year updates keep it recent. I would highly recommend a "Trucker" GPS. Brand is up to the individual. The Garman is very user friendly.
