Dometic Heater Thermostat

Has anyone else struggled to get the HVAC to work correctly. My problems seem to always originate from the Dometic Dual Zone Thermostat. Last night the temperature dropped down into the thirties and I could not get the heater to come on. This morning I finally got the heater to come on. The interior temperature was down in the low fifties. Earlier in the year I had a bit of a struggle to get the AC's to work but I think I have that down pat now. I do know that during the PDI we had at least three guys in the rig trying to get the AC to come on. I am wondering if I am just challenged or if there is a different remote that someone can recommend that is easier yo use. My house thermostats are quite easy to use so I want to place the blame on the Dometic in my 3160.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Tom Marty

I, too, struggled with that darn thermostat. Once I figured out how to get the time set for each program, it worked fine. Remember, you must reset the time of day after any time the thermostat has had the power shut off to it. Good luck and enjoy.

When I have the individual zones set to AC, I then switch the furnace zone to furnace with the temp I want, and I turn the other zone off. Be sure to give the thermostat time to set itself. When I was getting acclimated, I would think that the zone changes should pick up immediately. It isn't unusual for it to take 15-30 seconds to set itself. No touching while it's resetting.

Simple matter of making sure you are looking at zone 1, then push mode button to say furnace, set temp to what you want, and then wait for it to kick in. John

Early on, we struggled with the thermostat, especially when using it with the clock mode. Decided it wasn't worth the hassle, reset the thermostat, and never re-activated the clock function. After almost three years, the thermostat went crazy, had the A/C running at the same time as the heater. The display was all gibberish. Ordered a new thermostat, and it is working great.

Well, judgeing by the amount of replies and the content contained it must mean that I am to impatient with my thermostat and or technically challenged. At least Dick had some of the same issues I did so I am not alone . I think I got it going doing what Steve suggested. I will have to reread the instructions again. I do know that the RV techs also had issues only they were having problems with the AC wher my problem was with the heat. I will say one thing and that is it could work a heck of a lot simpler like my home thermostats.

Has anybody found a better replacement and installed it?
Thanks in advance.

Finally figured out this thermostat. It was the auto program messing with me. There is a factory default program 1 and program 2. You can adjust them to what ever times you want things to get warmer or cooler. I figured out how to turn them off and now I have no problems like the AC coming on when trying to heat the unit. Pretty simple, just held the program button down for three seconds to shut it off. To bad it took me so long to figure that out. Oh well better late than never.
