Hot water heater

Our hot water heater makes a humming sound when it's on electric, but not all the time. Does anyone know why? Will it hurt to leave it on electric or should we just use the gas?

Hi

The check valve will hum sometimes when the water is running but stops when the faucet or shower is shut off. This is commonly caused by mineral buildup in the valve.

A hum when the electric heat is on and heating the water is not common but I have heard it before in household water heaters and never had a problem because of it.

If we are in a very quiet place and the water heater comes on, in electric mode, we can hear a slight sizzle or hum, which is the sound of the element heating the water. This does not seem to be a problem.

Mine makes a tone of sort when on electric I think its the heating element reacting to the water before it starts to boil. when my heater get annoying I turn off the electric and turn on the gas it seems to help then I turn it back to electric after a hour or more.
What song does your heater Hum???? I could not resist sorry. LOL
