Check List

Hello Everyone, I have read that many of you have a list of items that you check before you start on your adventure. I did the unthinkable on our last trip, I left the steps down and just started pulling out when our son-in-law yelled to stop. We almost wiped out the steps, but fortunately it on pushed them a little. I have also left the refrigerator on when it should have been turned off, so I do need help.

What I am leading up to is.....does anyone have a check list that they are willing to share...or at least something to get me started. My husband and I are new to 5th wheels, but we do plan to
travel a lot.

When I introduced myself earlier, I told that my husband recently retired from the military, so you know how everything has to be just so....so, needless to say I'm in trouble.

Thanks - Jackie Cooley

Jackie, Here is a site that I found and it has all different types
of checklist. You can download these and then adapt it for your use.

Jackie, just wanted to comment that many of us leave the refrigerator on while on the road. Some folks prefer to drive with it turned off and that's fine. When we were weekending we'd leave the fridge on all season, even when parked at home. But we had electric hooked up to the Montana while it was home. That way I didn't have to worry about getting the fridge turned on and cooled off before heading out. Just wanted to point out you can leave it on if you want, except in any place where the law requires otherwise. It's a good idea to turn it off when fueling the tow vehicle, too.

Thanks for the web site link (a lot of super info there) ridgerunner and thanks for sharing your list Just148. Both a great contribution. And Steve, thanks for the reminder to turn off the propane when refueling the tow vehicle. Bet there are plenty out there who don't always remember so the heads up is thumbs up!!

Just148, thank you for the list. I have one but after reading yours I've expanded mine.

I wanted to bring to light that each of these lists are unique to each of us. I have things on my list that others don't have such as an outside thermometer that I have to put up and remove when we arrive and depart.

Also each of us do things in a certain sequence so one thing doesn't interfere with another.

I use 2 lists that generally refer to set up and break down. An "ARRIVAL" and "DEPATURE" list.

We also have a general "CAMPING" list that consists of what we want to bring to a paticular place. For instance if we're going to the beach I'll have beach chairs, carry all, rafts and such on the list. If we're headed to the mountains I'd have fire wood, fire pit, screen tent on the list.

These lists have come in quite handy. I really hate heading down the road and then remember that I've left something at home.

Thanks again Just148 for posting your list!

Happy Campin

Bill

Vicki has a list taped to the inside of the door on the coat closet just inside the front door. It's not a long list but has been invaluable to us. I used to have a list for outside but never could find it when I needed it but now have done it so many times I don't really need a list. Biggest problem for me is when I get to talking to a neighbor. That throws me out of my routine and is when I make most of my mistakes. Believe me, I doubt any of us here who have done more than just a few trips has NOT screwed up. We haven't left the steps down yet but did have several episodes of the steps coming down on their own while on the road. Keystone replaced the steps, end of problem. Good to see you here.

One I'd add the above before leaving is to do a walk around once completely hooked up and check all lights (brake, running, emergency, directionals are working.. Check tire preasure on both truck and trailer.

For our 3295RK, we keep our "exterior" set-up & breakdown lists in plastic page protectors taped on the basement door. When you open the basement door and latch it into position, the lists are right there at eye level. Sure helps.

We have organized our basement with 3 different-colored large tubs and also have a list taped to the basement door showing what's in each tub. That way we don't have to go thru each tub to find what we want. We use our awning hook to pull the tub within arms reach.

Inside, we keep the "interior" set-up & breakdown lists in plastic page protectors in a ringed binder that we keep in the closet next to the door.

Of course it's all on disk for easy updating and yeah... I know I'm anal!...hahaha
Gotta have those lists...
