Goodyear G 614 Tires ...length of service

The background is that I have 2014 3402RL and I have used Goodyear G 614's on it for 19 months and ...pulled it for 17,000 miles. Does anyone have comments as to how long the 614's could be in service before they need replacement?

Not just G614s, but I've read one should expect 5 to 7 years on a set of RV tires whether they sit most of the time or you travel a lot. The better the tire some have achieved 10 years before swapping them out.

I would say you are a third or less of the way with your set. But I don't know what kind of care you're heeding. For example, taking extreme care of your tires will also improve how long they will last. Like checking inflation often and monitor their loading (at a scale weigh each tire/axle). Others things to watch for are minimizing very sharp turns for long distances, not ending your tow on a turn, no curb jumping/cutting and other minor abuses. I also cover all my tires when I get to a destination.

We are at 2 years on our G614's, and if we had not had a bearing failure early in 2015, we would still have the same four tires on the ground, looking for another three or more years on the road. When the bearing failed, it caused extreme rapid wear on both curb side tires, to the point of having them replaced in July. The tires on the road side still look great. You never know what is just down the road, hazards and such, so just do your best to maintain what you can and hope the rest works. You still need to budget for the unknown, not just tires.

I plan on replacing our 614's at 7 years. We're at 4 years now.

As long as they look good I plan on running them until about 7-8 years. They have just over 37K and they still look new. When I was running 10 ply tires i changed them around 5 years.

Goodyear recommends 7 years for the G-614 I have 4 on an equipment trailer that are coming up on 6 years and 70,000 miles still going strong.

it's more about miles than years.... just use your common sense, you'll know when the tires start wearing down that it is time to replace them.

I got around 40,000 miles on each set I had.

This is not the case with most RV’s they sit for 11 months and then operate for 2 to 4 weeks a year.

For the average RV the tires fail because of dry rot or just plain age long before the mileage becomes a factor.

I purchase out of date tires for a large ranch that uses them on equipment pulled by farm tractors off road only we still have a 50% failure rate even though the tires never see anything except soft ground. It’s still an advantage because I am purchasing $350 tires for $50. Some of these tires have never been used and still have the little rubber pieces that normally are gone after operating for a mile or so.

As the tire reaches it published life in years it must be monitored closely for distress in the side walls and center tread are if you intend to use it on the highways.

We check our RV tires every year for dry rot and cracked side walls. At 5 years we will buy new tires regardless of the miles or cost.Thus far these G614s show no signs of anything after 2/1/2 years

I totally Agree age not mileage on RV tires if you are the average RVer

We are coming up on 5 years in May and are planning on getting one or two more years out of them. From here we will keep a closer eye out for cracks etc.

If you are running the Goodyear G-614 there is no reason to replace at 5 years when Goodyear says 7 years.

I ran my first set about 65,000 miles at the pressure showing in Goodyear’s chart for the weight the scale says I have on the tires. They wore on the outside edge and Goodyear gave me a 50% discount on a new set and advised to run them at full 110 psi to stop the outside edge wear. The present set are wearing properly at 110 psi.

I acutely inspect the tires before every trip.

We had between 44K and 50K on our G614 tires, we put on MorRyde IS while at the Fall Rally and put on new tires to start fresh. Kept two of the old 614s, put the best one on as our new spare. Now got 5 like new Marthons and one well used G614 setting in a farm shed. Perhaps those Marabombs will be repurposed as a pasture drag and spend many good years spreading cow pies.

I had G614s on my trailer for about 5 1/2 years. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 miles. I got new tires just because of the age of the G614s and put 4 on Craigslist and sold the set of 4 for $300 to a guy to put on his utility trailer.
