New Member - 2018 305RL HC
Hi,
We will be joining the Montana owners family this Wednesday when we take delivery of our new 305 RL. After months of looking and research, it came down to two trailers: Montana 305RL HC vs. Grand Design Reflections 327. We liked the overall build quality of Grand Design , but both coaches are very similar in floor plan, weight and price. In the end, it came down to dealership experience and ability/ confidence in service after the sell. While we're not full-timers yet, we do a lot of boondock camping in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. The Montana offered the drop down frame for additional storage and other features that we wanted in our next 5th wheel. We have enjoyed our current 08 Heartland Sundance and we're hoping our new Montana will be as trouble free - after the first year bugs are worked out.
My only remaining concern is with the Montana is towing it with my GMC 2500 HD Duramax diesel crew with 6.5' bed. My Sundance had a ton of cab to trailer clearance and I never had to worry about it hitting in sharp turns. I don't like the notion of going to a slider hitch because most of the time I've seen rear truck windows shattered the driver forgets to use the slider (that would be me as well). I have installed an Andersen hitch in hopes to gain a little more clearance and ease of removing the hitch. I look forward to learning and sharing more with other Montana owners on this forum.

The HC 305 RL is my favorite HC. You boondock in Wyoming. Did you ever try Union Pass? It’s, I think the prettiest place in the state. At 9200 feet with lots of small trout streams and lakes.

Welcome. Ford SB is more like 6 3/4' so maybe that helps? I bought a slider and never used it yet. I'm waiting for the semi driver to start puling with a ball, until then I'll use the horseshoe....

Welcome to the forum! We use a Pullrite hitch and that way we never have to remember the slider or watch truck clearance.
