Carpet replacement - Laminate Flooring?

Has anyone done this and does it make sense to have laminate flooring and area rugs? (we are new and my wife wants the carpet up).

There are a number of members who have done this. I started to get you a lit of postings on the topic (50+ came up), but decided it might be better for you to look at them yourself.

In the upper right hand corner of the screen are a number of options. Click on "Search" and enter "laminate floor" (without the quotes) in the "Search for" box. Down further click on the box next to "Archived Posts" (the default is to search recent posts (something like 12-18 months), "Archived Posts" searches the older postings), hit enter and you should get 6 pages of "hits". You should also try the search without the "Archived Posts" box clicked (I didn't) to see what that returns.

I took the carpet out of living room.. left the carpet on the slide and on the steps and in the bedroom....I installed vinyl plank flooring from Home Depot.. It runs from the steps into the kitchen. We love it.. nice and easy to clean..only thing it is cold in the a.m. with low temps. outside.. just put the house slippers on in the a.m.

Forgot to add.. do not have to worry about water damage to vinyl.. Laminate will swell up from water..

When doing Laminate you have to make sure your kitchen slide will lift up and over the laminate. Ours does not. It is the only slide that will not clear the height of the laminate. Had laminate in our past 2955 and loved it but it did not have a kitchen slide. FYI
