Wow! What a ride! US-17-Flagstaff to Phoenix

Left Williams, AZ, yesterday 'cause it was to darnblad cold, and headed South.

Took US-17 out of Flagstaff. There are some 6% grades there that will test your exhaust brake system, and your brakes. Then we hit I-10 downhill to Tucson.

Averaged 10.8 mpg in the SOB.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Edited: Yes I did mean I-17, not US-17. Shoosh!

Gee! Nobody going to jump in about "downhill" to Tucson????

Bet you mean INTERSTATE 17 don't you? There are good downgrades on it.

If you think that is bad.....try taking US 60 from Hollbrook to Apache Junction! Beautiful scenery but you will use your exhaust brake lots and lots! Also can almost meet your tail light on some of those hair pin curves. Yes we did tow through there and did OK. There are some 6% and
7% grades through there.

Wayne, That's uphill man. Actually I know there are some small grades on that road but the overall elevation change is UP to Tucson OR DOWN to Phoenix.....lol Glad you have a great sense of humor, right???

Dano just made that run from Flagstaff to Phoenix last week
in his semi! He said it was fun! Now he'll have no problem
if we ever get there in the Monty!

Every time I saw a Swift truck I'd turn the CB Walkie Talkie on and say, "Is your name Dano?"

Never got a reply.

You'll probably want to be smarter than we were when we drove our rig over Highway 89, Monitor Pass near Lake Tahoe. There was 9.6 miles of 10% grade. BTW, Highway 89 only looks like a shortcut to get to Lee Vining, CA, near Yosemite. A smarter choice would have been Hwy. 88.
